Jim Oddy's Austin is Alive and Angry !

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by swade41, May 16, 2012.

  1. My buddy John has been restoring this car for the past 11 years and that doesn't count the time he spent tracking it from coast to coast and Canada.
He is very meticulous about accuracies on this and has gone the extra mile to make it reflect it's glorious past. This past Saturday a few friends were invited over for the "making it come alive moment". It was pretty awesome to say the least to witness the spit and furry coming out of those zoomies, it was a great afternoon !

Awesome moment! Thanks for taking the time to share, always loved that car!

  6. Well I didn't want to take away any of Johnny's moment but seeing he hasn't posted it yet I was about ready to so you just beat me to it Phil.

This car was basically a shell and original frame when the current owner got it. He spent years tracking the car down and found it in Maine (?). It has taken him 12 years of tiredless searches trying to find all of the original parts just to get it to this point. Jim Oddy himself as well as many past and present racers across the country have been instrumental in coming up with all of the parts, some of which are N.O.S. The car is not quite finished yet. There is still some chrome work that needs to be done as well as the interior.

This car is quite a piece of racing history and sent a chill up my spine when I heard that blower whine. Maybe some of you won't understand (perhaps you will) but to see and hear this car was like seeing a real "live" dinosaur today.

My hat goes off to John and all the people involved for doing such a remarkable job of restoring this car back to its glory days.

  9. I got the go ahead from John and also gave him a link to the thread so he can fill in any of the inaccuracies, I believe he found the car on Long Island.

Not sure were to go this year want to get it finished & I have Major nerve damage in my back. So will see I love it at Bowling green, I had it there in 03 in primer & last year. They gave Jimmy a life time achievement award so we took the car there for the banquet.

I believe it was in the 70's that Ron Podsiadly (Moparron) formally from Rochester, NY sold and delivered this Oddy Austin to Canada. On that trip we brought back a rare 48 Morris van.
Talked with Ron today and this is the same Austin. It was black with blue flames back then. Ron was aware of the restoration build had been in contact with John during the build. Those of us who remember and helped Ron when he had the car and cruised the streets of Rochester think it's great to see it back home on this side of the pond.
