Roots supercharged v16... 366 cubic inches... made about 500hp.

They didn't really have "f1" in the thirties... That is what you would call a grand prix car. Competed against Maseratis, Mercs, etc...

Ohh... and that's a type-c... Hitler hated the type-c, but I won't go into the reason why here...

    Hey guys-
Supercharged v-12's and v-16's in the 30's? That's Hitler's engine testbed right there. Now you know where the Stuka and Messerschmidt got their engines....
Auto Union was a conglomerate created by the socialist goverment of Germany out of the four major auto manufacturers at the time. You'll recognize its logo as the four interlocking rings on Audis.

Sort of, but not really... Hitler wasn't a big fan of the auto union and by the time the war came around he had already decided that he would be using Auto Union's competitor to power his Messerschmitts... They all ran the Daimler-Benz DB 605.

  21. Got to see/hear Hans Stuck in that car at Goodwood a few years back, it was being run in Hillclimb trim with the double rear wheels.....still managed a rolling start, downhill burnout past us for about 200 feet tho!!

    AWESOME noise

It may have been mentioned on here before but some years back I listened to a record (full size-33 1/3) with the sounds of the 16 Auto Unions and the big Mercedes of the same era including a portion of it at speed. A friend of mine played the whole album one night while we were working in his shop. There must be someone handy who has such in their record collection. Man that is music-Jim

I just blew up my laptop's speakers. And my wife left the room. It would be awsome to see and hear those cars at full song on the Nuhrburg Ring. (And yes I spelled that wrong. I was educated in Bama.)

That record was a Riverside Recording I still have one. It's in Poland I'm here
    The cars do sound good.
There is an old ,Shell, film I think of Monte Carlo GP One of the cars comes way deep into the corner and BOUNCES OFF THE CURB! The pilot never lifts

Watch the cars drift is almost better than the sound

I know where there are some bits and pieces and someday........

empire, I am staring at a model of that sitting on top of my computer at the moment. when I was recently in germany I stoped in at an AUDI dealer and bought a model of this car its the 1936 type C

and also the other one that you posted which was a 1937 from memory that model is much bigger and has a heap of detail.

its because of these cars that I am a closet AUDI fan. well not closet anymore I have an A4.

love the early AUTO UNION stuff.

  28. Now all we need is the smell of the "secret" blend of alky fuel to burn our nostrils and make your eyes water! Propaganda sponsored racing, those were the days!
