I suggest if that you get some phenolic spacers to go between the carbs and the manifold. You will have less perculation of fuel problems. They are available from Langdon's stovebolt. Also the bottom of the carbs have a vacuum port that is fed my manifold vacuum. the Gaskets must be installed to allow this port to get its signal. If its blocked, the power jets will be opeed all the time causing an over rich mixture at idle and part throttle.
Can you post a pic of the linkage side of the set up? Like to see how its supposed to be as opposed to the hardware store stuff I have on mine. Would like to see how your choke/s are set up as the external linkage seems to be missing from yours. here is my set up. I have also welded my heat riser flap in the horizontal position and have a piece of stainlees sheet between the intake and exhaust. Most people insist you need the manifold heat, but I have never had an issue even in 40 degree or colder temps.

I'll snap a picture of the linkage side for ya. I think i got the dual link plus the mount (which acts as a 1/8th inch riser as well) for george asche (sp?) down in PA.
I love that finned head by the way, that's killer.

Here is a link to the set up on my old 218 before it bent a valve and I went with a new 230 which I also added a finned aluminum head. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxfKQ4KMM9s Unfortunately I do not have a video of the 230 but it sounds pretty much the same only a bit louder now that the exhaust has been on a few years. |

In high school we used to put flathead Chrysler engines in them. It requires spacing the radiator forward but sure makes a difference in torque

Quick question:
I'm running wires to the coil from the harness. I need to extend the main wire that heads to the coil lead. I was just planning to use the same guage wire that was to the original coil, since it's all 6v and i didn't think it matters that it's a mallory vs the stockone, but a buddy advisee that i check and see if i should be using a resistor ...or a resisted wire.... pardon my lack of knowledge here and feel free to tell me that i'm crazy. Anyone have an idea what he is talkin about?

a little bit of a late update, but anyway, i did manage to finally get the car running. Turns out that the super sweet looking Mallory coil wasn't too keen on positive ground. swapped that out with a regular coil, and it's running like a dream. Which is a huge relief considering i bought it already out of the last car it was in, and with out ever hearing it run.
Here it is right before the hood went back on, and it took it's final journey for the season to the garage for the winter. ![]() ![]()
