1954 Chevy 3 speed tranny with overdrive, were they available??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by BloodyKnuckles, Jul 2, 2006.

  1. A friend just picked up a 54 and was interested in replacing his stock 3 speed for one with overdrive. Did Borg Warner make one for chevy? Was this ever an option from the factory?
    Any info would be great.
    Thanks,

No! Chevy never offered O.D. until the '55 model. However there WAS an aftermarket piece available for the InLine6 crowd-I believe it may have come from Ruxtell-the same people that made worm drive and two speed rearends for Model T. I remember a guy in my hometown who had one on a seriously rodded '51: six gears thru headers and steel packs leaving town after several hours at The Rustic.

  3. do the swap and put a late model OD it.........700r4 or t-10....BELEIVE me you'll be happy!!!!
