Okay, I have the chance to get the front brakes and spindles from a Granada. Is it a direct bolt in setup? What else would I need? Should I take this rout or just run some Aerostar (CC850) springs? If all you are after is ride height, the springs are the easy way out. If you go to discs you need a proportioning valve, dual master cylinder,disc brake wheels. Might have to ream the spindles to accept your ball joint, I think the versales bolt up without reaming. I used the torino spindles, they changed the camber/caster quite a bit. Your call, Mark
Thanks! I can get my hands on everything pretty easily without spending much although I had no idea about the wheels. Thanks for that! I'll probably just go with the springs then. I was doing a parts trade with someone and they offered the Granada parts which is why I asked.
I want the ass to be a little lower. Both in the front would be around a 6" drop right? I don't know if I can go that low in the rear without serious modifications.
If you go with the Granada/Monarch spindles, and Aerostar springs, it should drop the front about 3-3 1/2"

Mitchelldemoor, before I did all the work on my frame. My car had I believe 2 or 2 1/2 coil cut from the front and 2 leafs taken out of each side of the rear with 3 inch blocks and flipped shackles. The car was damn low and still handled pretty well. Now it lays frame on air ride. I didnt pay not even near half as what others would pay and its done right with a powder coated frame. I do kind of regret not doing hydros due to the way im building my car...but that can always be changed.
Check your wheels, some wheels may not fit the brake rotor at the hub hole. If it has'nt been mentioned Ackerman angles. For new Granada parts...... http://www.discbrakeswap.com/
Granada spindles can be machined to lower a car approximately 1" to 2 1/2" depending on how much material you remove from the lower ball joint hole. if you want to lower your car 1" you have to machine the lower ball joint hole large enough so the spindle sits all the way down on the ball joint stud like the factory spindle. if you want the 2 1/2" drop you will only have to machine out enough material so the spindle will sit high up on the tapered part of the ball joint stud, a rubber spacer will be needed between the spindle and the grease boot, approx. 3/4". You will also need a hardened spacer or washers to take up the space under the castle nut because the Granada spindles are thinner in this area. This is what DropNStop has been selling for many years. http://www.dropnstop.com/ Granada rotors have been successfully machined in a brake lathe to fit wheels with a smaller center hole. I didn't have to do this on my car but if I had to I think I would check this area before I removed any material to make sure they are thick enough, you never know with aftermarket rotors.

No worries I didnt get offended. If you want it low and a bit lower in the back like my car was....that is the way to go. The only thing I had to do was cut the floor alittle where the drive shaft would have rubbed.
I say use the Granada spindles and get the improved disc brakes for cheap. It never hurts to have a bit more braking to deal with cell-phone yacking idiots that are not paying attention. Some free drop is a nice benefit. You can adjust the spring height after the spindle swap.

The one thing I will do though is swap in a '67 Mustang dual master cylinder. Also this is directed to 56 ford custom; I was going to do what you did to yours only I was thinking about adding air shocks in the back. What are your thoughts on this? I think I might have a couple more pics...That isnt a promise though since I have moved a few times since I had that car going. So has the car haha. I ran air shocks on the rear of mine too at the time. The only thing is that mine was soo low that the angle of he shock kind of made them worthless. Are you planning to notch the rear? Or relocate the shock angle?
If you have no problems with the brakes I would just replace the coils. Thats what I did. I also used the air shocks (not bags) in the rear for when my buddies jump in the back seat I don't tail drag. Here's how it sits with the above modifications:

I have been thinking about doing the same to my wife's 56. Just the granada spindles, but her car is already pretty low, so maybe there has been a change of the springs already, It does have the aluminum blocks in the control arms to.
Honestly...Im keeping all 4 drum brakes. My car always stopped well and dont see a reason in messing with that.

I got lowering blocks and I also reversed the shackles for the rear. Instead of removing a leaf I would have them de-ached if you want it any lower. Its alot safer.
