#4 is wild willy? I remember that from when I was a wee one and I as well havent been the same since.
Check out a video of the late Dante Duce. He was instramental to bring drag racing to England. In September 1963, the first American dragster and crew arrived in the UK. Dante Duce had challenged Sydney Allard to a transatlantic match race series and had persuaded Dean Moon to lend him his 600bhp Chevrolet Mooneyes dragster for the trip Financial assistance came from Mobil Oils and Revell Model Kits. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/PM2Jq4tlK4Y&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/PM2Jq4tlK4Y&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Since it's back up top, here a couple more pics of Angelo Giampetronis 27 T-Roadster from nitrogeezers
There are so many. I honestly can't say there is one individual car from that era that trips my trigger. They all had their own character and innovation. You all know that this is what I'm dreaming of these days.
I like dragsters that owe their style to Indy Cars of the same period. Bob Sullivan's Pandemonium II.
Wow, this thread came back from the dead! Glad it did, I want more info on the Moonliner Allison?? Where, who, why??
This one did it for me, in a copy of Drag Racing Mag. Also - Ohio George's 33 Willys when it had the SOHC in it, and Dyno Don's first flopper.
turdytoo; That Scotty 'T' is so fine. Cool blog Ryan- thanks. I see your point- the Giampetroni '27 is far out and perfect. Dave McDonald's 'bodied Hemi rail from here in Adelaide does it 4 me- maybe that's wistful 'lil kid nostalgia.. Jocko's 'Liner? G.B.P? 'Glass Slipper? - dunno..I'm too young. I grew up around rear- engines and as a group they were mainly beautiful- not too many turds as i remember. ANything lil' John Buttera built- is that O/T?
Seen pics- IMAO someones gotta redo (with a brush)/replace the shitty modern vinyl lettering. How about perty '63- back inline engined rails- pics anyone? p.s A pic of my favorite - Dave McDonald, Hemi A/D. Local Adelaide car. My wonderful Grandpa would walk me down to the local garage at Pennington and we'd look at it & talk about it thru the 'showroom' window . This is when I was 8 or 9 y.o. ('69 ?). Red & white, burned in my brain ! D. Mc D built a super nice 8" channeled Y block deuce roadster too. Metalflake red. My friend Tony bought it & ran it. It wound up with Con M. in Melbourne.
Glad this thread got resurrected...had lots of favorites, one was the Jim Fox rear engined modified roadster, sort of a candy purple with first a carburated then a blown Chrysler...can't find a picture of it, though...wonder what happened to it?
The blown 331 in Fox's roadster became much more famous when Norm Weekly legged it in the Frantic Four B/FD.
