Has anybody done, or know of somebody who has done this? I have a engine that's just waiting to go together thats been bored out to 60 over due to previous engine woes (a blown out piston). This is a spare engine now that I would like to build up and possibly drop back into my truck once it's done. All info is appreciated.

  2. Dont waste your money,,,

  3. The cranks are cast iron, and prone to cracking. I would have your crank checked out really well before anything else.
Seems like those engines could benefit from more compression and making the head flow better. Updated ignition is a must too...

You can rework a Ford 240/300 distributor to fit, this will give you mechanical advance and if you choose a later model, duraspark.

The best way to stroke a 223 is to replace it with a 300.

There is always it's big brother the 262 truck engine. Back when I worked for a Ford tractor dealer a guy came in with a 67 Cougar With the diesel engine from a 6000 Ford tractor same basic motor.

I'm doing the one in my 57 Sedan Delivery the easy way- yank it and insert a 427 :D

As awesome as a 427 would be, I want something that you just never see done, I want something that any sane person would just never think of doing. I'm trying to create that engine that makes people ask why would you do that? Followed by how did you do that? Call me crazy but, I like doing what everyone else isn't.

I built my 223 in my 59. Good engine with .030 over, .015 off block .010 off head, reground cam from Delta Cams in Tacoma, wa had a Mallory dist controlling a MSD 6A box, Offy 2x1 intake and split the factory manifold. Engine ran great and had nice power. I used 1 piece valve for a Yblock and gasket matched the ports.
