This is a 1940 all steel Willys that came into my shop this summer. This car came from some were back East. I'm not sure of exatly where. We will be doing the car as an early 60s gasser. I will keep photo's coming as I get into the project.:D

I don't want to be that one A-hole to say that it's too nice to cut up, but...

8. Your not, years ago I said give me a torch and fifteen minutes and I could cut any car up. Boy has times changed. Yea an original willys is hard to find. Especially a coupe

Its funny that we have people telling somebody not to hot rod a car...

On a Hot Rod Forum...

Anyway, I dont think the OP was asking for our votes.

And he already told us what he is going to do with it.

it would be nice to see one put back original or even customized instead of made into a gasser this one has so much potential to go any way with it being that it is a complete unmolested car, i mean dont get me wrong i love them as gassers but would be nice to see somthin alil diffrent like lowered with some skirts and www, but to each his own.

I'll be waiting to watch and see the build come togather here!

16. So far, prior to breakdown, that looks like a mighty fine basis to start with. I wonder if the 59,000 miles are original?

I like the shift knob!

17. It's close but the valve stems are in a different location.

Does anyone really want one of these with the stock drivetrain or restored to stock? Without the gasser past would anyone really want a Willys? Not that you were asking but my vote is to make it a gasser!!!!

19. Actually there are several "all original" ones running around Western New York and they draw a ton of attention. Not my cup of tea but cool none the less.

Thank you guys for your opinions. My friend has had this car for about 15 years. He looked for a car that when time a money were spent this car would be his dream. Yes he could do a kit car. But when we were uts the only fiber glass was on the front ends and maybe the rear fenders. This will be very nice 60s street gasser. We will do the car justice...

Actually there are a number of fans of stock and stock looking or resto rod Willys - a surprising number here on the Hamb. I get a little tired of the 'done to death' Willys Gasser fad. I appreciate them and the history and I absolutely believe that orignal race cars from the era should be preserved as such - warpaint and all, but there are other ways too of building a Willys that make it a standout.

The stock Willys coupe has wonderful organic Art Deco lines and the 1940 De Luxe may well be the pinnacle, which is why I have torn mine apart and it is in the process of being reincarnated in all it's close to stock appearing Deco glory as the Ungasser....

Oh no not another Chevy engine!! This is the engine for the Willys project. A nice sweet running 433in 671 blown sb. :D I must say weasel that we may be on the same page. We want this car to look like it just came out of the farmers barn. The body will be completly stock. The original front axle. No tubed rear fenders. It will have a stock 40 Willys interior. Stock gauges and a stock looking steering wheel. Blower will be under the hood. 8x15 in the rear,6x15 in the front. Whalla. You have a 50s early 60s street gasser.

Hell, I don't care, it's not my car, he can make it an ice cream truck if he wants! :D

That being said... If it were mine I'd go gasser style too!! :)
