Devin Bodied Cars---any Photos Out There?

You might check on http://www.forum.forgottenfiberglass.com/ There is some info there.

I had a Devin body in the raw fiberglass about 30 years ago (a friend still has it) and it would make for a great looking car but was well beyond my skills at that time.

 

Here are a couple of pictures of a Devin Coupe from the Atlana $10,000 Drags a couple of months back.

Nothing beyond I think it's from somewhere around north Georgia. I'm a big fan of the old Devins; wish I'd hung around to get a shot of the engine. It ran pretty strong. HogMountainDave on here may know more. He was there that day and he's from Georgia.

 

Damn, I'm getting older than I realized. He's right the car, Zorro's Charger is a Kellison. Shit, I knew that...carry on.

Yeah, I was thinking Kellison, just couldn't remember the name. A local guy drag raced one in the 1960's, then cut it up and tossed it in a dumpster, glad to see that one survived. Bob

 

Devin SS Junior 1/4 sports cars

 

Here's one (to be) under construction - hopefully starting next year. Never used, "large" body - for use with "American" components as stated in their literature. Plans are tube frame, Jaguar E type front suspension, an old 350 race motor and muncie, 9 inch. Stay tuned........

Here are a few pictures of my Devin Special. It was originally a street car, then converted to a road racer, and is now in the process of becoming a dual purpose street / track car. Two of the photos are with a bubble hood, which I still have. one of these is with the roll bar removed and with Torq Thrusts added in photoshop. The last picture is of the car racing is at lime rock in its current configuration with a 525hp Hilborn injected sbc. The same car as in a couple of earlier posts. I just purchased this 1951 Henry J Devin special from the family of its builder Dennis Schmidt. It had been sitting for 45 years in a garage in Kansas. The engine is a Hillman side valve four.

FYI: Toluca Lake Classic Motorsports, if still in business, make a replica Devin body. Their website seems to be still alive.

 

About 25 years ago my youngest son told me about a Devin bodied Triumph chassis with a 215" aluminum Buick engine for sale in the Hartford Courant newspaper. I immediately called and made an appointment to see the car, which was under a tarp in the owner's mother's back yard. . The owner said that several people low-balled him on the price. I didn't. He asked me when I could pay him. I said right now, and pulled out the money and paid his asking price. My son and I towed it home on my trailer, pulled out the 215" and Chevy 4 speed, as that is what my son wanted.
