Looks like I'd better be the one to report. Round 1 at Sydney started out with 5 HAMBster starters. 240 entrants all up meant the day would be long but the Sydney Dragway staff were on the ball early. First round saw Joe's Flathead powered having bad clutch slip so wasa second off his usual. Jeff's was off song as well but turned out to be a linkage slipping on one carby. He fixed it and ran a 13.3. Mine was running crisp but I couldn't do better than 14.73. Had 1 elimination run against Joe and won and then 1 against Jeff but the Grey motor went off song for some reason and I ran a 15.134 on a 14.73 dial- in so Jeff took the win. We lined up for our last elimination and the storm that was hanging around decided to let rip with a heavy shower of rain. Time to put the cars on the trailers and head home. Oh well, shit happens. Next round on 12th April so hopefully better weather. Peter
spanners -- Peter, always nice to hear a race report from the crew down under. Sounds like a normal drag race day with lots of small item's messing up the perfect run, we have all been there. Sounds like the track crew got a lot of pairs run before mother nature had her way. We have our ANRA Nostalgia opener April 11-13, I think all the HA/GR & SDRA dragsters are ready for the season to start. You can find a couple of videos under spanners94 on youtube. Look for Round 1 Sydney Drag way. I tried to put the Youtube link in but I can't copy the url for some reason, the reason being I'm better with a spanner than a 'puter.
Peter, not trying to muddy your thread, just dropped the three video on my reply so all can see the good racing. How many clutches do you go through in a season? Talk about RPM on the leave. Sydney Drag Way looks like a fine facility.
Yes, Sydney is a good venue. When I started drag racing about 2 1/2 years ago I thought they were a bit disorganized but not long after they had a management restructure. Now they seem to be really on the ball. As far as clutches go, the pressure plate is an old one that was laying around the shed which I dressed up with an orbital sander to knock the rust off. It's probably done approximately 200-plus launches without complaint. Yet. The clutch plate is a new one I put in last year after I sheared the flywheel bolts off at Willowbank. It's just an off-the -shelf standard PBR plate, cost about $65.00. Peter
Please do Nigel. Drag those other Queenslanders down as well. Don't forget to keep me in mind for that overseas trip to race, just don't tell anyone over there in case they start hotting up their cars. Might be worth getting them over here as well.
