His modern Stutz Blackhawk was in the driveway at Graceland the year we visited there during the NSRA Street Rod Nationals. No tours because he was home.

I remember that day at the Nats. We sat on the front lawn near the entrance gate and talked with his uncle (or it may have been his dad) for a while. We waited for a long time. Somebody hollered "there he goes' and we saw the Stutz pull away from the house and go out a back entrance. He was probably heading of to the airport to get away or something. It was a fun night for sure!

Elvis had a natural talent, sing and play guitar ....that is harder to do than most think.....greats like Elvis, Jim Morrison, John Lennon, Jimmy Hendrix can't grow old.....wouldn't suit them.

  10. No, really, forget the Caddys, here is further proof he preferred the BMW Isetta. Look at the quality of chick Isettas attract. He was no dummy. LOL

HE'S ALIVE!! ...this thread that is...

sorry for reviving this old thread but I don't know where to turn to. I'm searching for pics and info of the truck Elvis drove in '53/'54 for the Crown Electric Company, before recording his first single at SUNrecords. Hollywood wants us to believe it was a Ford F-1. But I came across a pic of a F-100 elvis supposed to have driven:

Does anyone have some more info on this subject? pics/history/links
I know of a painting that has been made of it by a famous automotive painter... But I'm not able to find it on the web anymore...

    Thanks!

One thing that seems to get lost is the fact that actors and performers didn't own all the vehicles they were photographed with. Elvis didn't own the 32 Roadster, Hendrix didn't own the chopper he's sitting on, on one of his album covers.

I hope this reality doesn't interfere with anyone's perceptions. :)

heheh, ofcourse, but aren't these threads all about finding out more about the history of these so-called cars-of-the-stars? Finding out who really DID own them...
Or better yet, (in some cases) who built them...

I read that in his last years Elvis would drive that big fiberglass Stutz around Beverly Hills with his Elvis suit on. In his early days Elvis was a Cadilac man for sure.

Seeing as somebody else has brought this thread back from the dead, I figured that I would add this that I found the other day. It's from 1956, and although I'm pretty sure his enormous fame stopped him from achieving his goal, I think it's pretty killer that the King was a hot Rodder at heart when he was young and the coolest thing on the planet.

They sucked the paint off because it did not have a trailer hitch.

    If that's a true story, it's a cool one!

  29. This perception of Elvis as being grotesquely fat is unfair. Up until just two or three years before his death he was much like he appeared in the 1968 Comeback Special.

Yes, he put some weight on (but not as much as popular legend would have us believe). These days celebrities gain and loose weight almost as a form of self promotion. George Clooney is not forever branded as a fat fucker because he had a paunch in Syriana.
