I just replaced the Distributor in my 51 Merc flathead with a unit built by Charlie in NY from the Ford Barn. It is a really well made unit and the advance curve seems to be right on "straight from the box". Unit has vacuum advance too which will help engine run cooler with better mileage. This has to be the single best modification you can make to a late model flathead.

I was aware of that but Bubba does not feel the vacuum advance is important. I run the highway a lot and I wanted vacuum adv. It will not only give better mileage but will help a flathead run cooler by keeping the timing as high, as possible.

There is no doubt in my mind he could. I did not intend to discredit Bubba in any way. I just knew Charlie always used vacuum and knew people who were very pleased with his work so I chose to go that way.
