Well I was recently at a motorcycle tattoo and hot rod show in the greater Montreal area on the weekend and check out this sweet little chopped hotrod out ..for the life of me I can't remember what it is, but I found it really neat can't say I've ever seen a hood scoop on a hot rod before.. Got me wondering if I could pull it off on the 51 Chevy Coupe

looks grossly overchopped to my trained eye. cars like this always make me think of Zippy the Pinhead from the old underground comics.

Proportions seem to take a dive after the B pillars. Looks like the builder tried to save a basket case or has a different view on what's "right". No eye.

There also appears to be a misuse of silicon, but this isn't the place for that discussion.

I think the lady could have worn something red instead. It takes the focus away from the misproportioned chop.

    Which one?

Chop is questionable, wheels I'm on the fence, lake pipes and scoop need to be thrown in a river.

Outside of that you can't deny it would look sinister heading toward you in the other lane. Still a cool car.

The way the scoop trails off in the back, looks like a 69-70 Mustang hood scoop to me, with the front opened up a bit.

A friend of mine has a chopped '50 with a '55 T-bird hood scoop grafted in, I personally like that better.

I would call that a custom, not a hot rod.

Why do people with zero artistic talent continue to try taping off flames?

Either you have it or you don't. Pay a fucking professional.

That green T Bucket is so over done, it hurts. It's a traveling display of everything wrong with having too much money to throw at a T. Please, keep 'em simple. They like it that way.

    Looks like it's been widened:

That partly accounts for the wheels looking wrong.

Widened fenders used to be something of a scourge in the South African hot rod scene. Easier than narrowing suspension, of course, especially if 10"-wide front tyres have to be accommodated. It always looks as if something big has sat on the car.

Whoa... tough crowd. I kinda like the flat black low rider custom at the start of it all, except for perhaps the back of the roof. But the grille looks fantastic to me. Safe to assume it is bagged? Gary

The truck probably has commercial dually front fenders, like something off of a fire truck or 1 ton+ stake truck. The cars aren't all hateful and I appreciate thinking of your HAMB brethren while you were there and sharing the pics. The 1st car has a lot of good ideas and a few bad ones. The truck? he's having more fun than I, my shit's not done. I liked the 37 (8?) Chevy coupe and the little primered T, the drag cars didn't totally suck either. Some folks are pretty hardcore about cars in our traditional foundations, but it's easy to see that the idea is spreading. Not everyone's going to be all in but you'd have to be blind not to see the change in things over less than 10yrs. There's an inherent beauty in a raw hot rod or kustom that comes from deep down. The desire to know and to build something "just right" isn't real common but sometimes it's nice to just see from afar how the scene (market?) has changed. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

  30. Looks like a 1 ton and up truck..
With the chop, looks like a lard ass hippopotamus with a tiny head
