Is anybody running 700-16 size tires on 4.00 wide wheels (‘40 ford)? Coker recommends 4.50-5.50 wide wheels but I was hoping to run them on my 40’s<O:p</O:p

You will get 100 people that say they run them on 4" wheels with no problem. You'll get another 100 that will say don't do it. To me it looks like the tread surface starts to get an arc to it with the 4" wheels. It's only 1/2" but ya gotta figure, they are the tire people, they recommend 4.5 minimum for a reason. I've run 750's on 4 1/2's. My current ride has 750's on 16x5" Merc wheels. I like the look of the tire on the 5" wheels.

    99 to go :)

I run 7.50-16's on stock 35 ford wires. They are 4 inches. 5 years now and no issues.

  4. 7.00's are a bit wider than 7.50's and they seem to fit 4 1/2" rims very well. Just did a set and happy with the fitment.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess the potential issue may be uneven tread wear if the tread is slightly bulged?

The 4.50 run perfect on 4" rims. They wear even and look sweet with no bulge.
Gives the skinny up front look, if that's what you want.

You probably won't run much air pressure in the 7.00/7.50's anyway so I think the tread wear issue is not much...

Seems like I was in this thread before but I looked back and didn't see it sooo,
I've been running 7:50-16's on 35 wires on this A for 11 years, 3 different sets and never had a problem, and I know others who also have.
Do it unless you are building a drifting car!!!!

Or the tyres could bounce of the rims if you hit a pothole! - Stick with 5" rims minimum.

I've had 700s and 750s on stock Ford wheels with no problems at all. The worry warts and nit pickers will argue but don't fret it you'll be fine. Life is too short to worry about it.

Gospel !! As to the "life is too short to worry about it" your talking to experts here when you refer to Tommy and I. At just shy of 70 I can tell you a lot of things I fretted about 30 years ago don't even qualify for a fleeting thought today.:D

you'll get a little more "dome" to the tread, but as said tread wear should be fine. run 'em.

Less/incorrect tyre pressure =faster tread wear.

no.. he wasn't, 7.00's was the question :)

  20. Thank you. Exactly why I gave my experience with 7.00's. I also agree that 4" will work just fine.
    All good.
