Slightly Chopped 1949-51 Ford Shoebox

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Scotch Buzzard King, Aug 2, 2011.

  1. I've seen all of the radically chopped 1949-51 Ford Shoeboxes, but has anyone ever just chopped an inch and a half or maybe just two inches? I ask this because I once saw a 1955 Chevy 210 Sedan that was chopped only 1 3/4", and the chop actually took that too-tall look out of the car while not dramatically changing the original lines of the factory style. I'd like to do that to my shoebox Ford and take away the high-top fade and turn it into just a flat-top if you catch my drift: make it easy on the eyes. Post a pic if you've seen it done this way.

Isn't there one for sale in the classifieds that was slightly chopped in the front only, and not at all in the back? Sounds odd,but the roof looked OK to me

I believe what you are so poorly trying to describe is remving some of the "crown" from the roof.

  8. Yeah, that's it! :D Definitely going green with that one. Green from the pocket. Green in the face. Green all over the pavement.

Yeah....it took a little more off the top than what I wanted......

  10. I'm thinking maybe a 2 to 2 1/2 inch chop would give me the profile I want. Anybody have any pics of a mild chop like this?

Brizio did a very mild chop on Eric Clapton's coupe...1.5" I believe...it looked nice, but made you scratch your head and wonder if it was even chopped. You'd have to know shoeboxes to tell- most people would walk right by not knowing it was chopped. I personally don't understand putting in the time and effort for such a subtle effect, but it's been done more than once. Eric Clapton's shoebox coupe sure is nice, though...they also extended the top of the decklid 5".

Coupe dimensions are already pretty nice, a SLIGHT chop can look cool.

Sedans are hideous from the factory, they NEED at least a 4 inch haircut.

    Just my 2 cents.

Here's my coupe with a slight 3in. slanted a pillar and a 4in. vertical rear chop. I wanted something mild too when I chopped it, along with the straight b pillar posts.

BobBleed (A.S.S.) is doing a 3.5 in. front, 4.0 in rear chop on my 51.

2 1/2 inch chop. Windshield laid back. If I were to do it again, I’d take approx 3 – 3 1/4” out of the rear. It will give the door window a better look.

You won't find many pics of a 1in or 1 and 1/2 in chop on a shoebox. It's alot of work regardless...most wouldn't go through the time and effort to remove that little.

Damn! I'm usually not into shoeboxes so much, and mostly just sneaked in to see some tastfully done chops... But this must be the bestlooking shoebox I've ever seen! I agree on the word "tasty". Everything is so correct with this. Really opened my eyes for the shoeboxes out there... thanks!!!

My 2 1/2 inch chopped 1949 Meteor Coupe. I kinda like it. When the vent windows are removed it also helps change the appearance. :D
