Seventeen years old, 1960 in Pamona or maybe Long Beach, up come the Bean Bandit dudes, I was so intriqued to see mexican dudes with this awesome race car. Being from a town of 400 folks in the middle of Nebraska it was like nothing I had ever seen. One of the fondest memories of my life. R.I.P. my hero. ~Sololobo~

RIP, extra nice that the younger bandits brought home some new records this season before Joaquin passed...

Sad news indeed. Around 1955 0r 6 when I was 10 or 11 my Dad took me to Colton strip. I had, at that time, no idea of drag racing or the racers. As I walked through the pits I saaw a car with "Bean Bandits" written on it. My first thought was what dumb name. At that time I thought cars should be called Godzilla or King Kong. It wasn't until years later I realised who and what the Bean Bandits were. God speed Joaquin.

  23. So sad, a real loss to the hot rod community (of course, more so for his family and friends). We're losing them guys - if you have a chance to meet a legendary hot rodder who has been an inspiration or influence don't hesitate.

    RIP Joaquin,

    Steve

Real loss to the sport, RIP.

Just think of the accomplishments the Bean Bandits did, maybe the first slingshot dragster, maybe the first twin-engined dragster, maybe the first bike wheels on a dragster...innovated with almost every engine imaginable, flatheads, Arduns, Buicks, Desoto, Chrysler, even a blown Studebaker...hard to think of any individual or racing team that did more.
