Pontiac had the chief ornaments...they are way cool. 40's and 50's Chief hood ornaments had a light-up effect as well. Olds Rocket hood ornaments are sweet too and early Plymouth are pretty unique.
i just found this one and wanted it but the junkyard owner was being flaky about parting stuff out 55 Olds
Have a soft spot for the old packards.. Check out the link www.northstargallery.com/ Look for the art of automoblies link
This was on ebay about six or seven years ago, I wish I had emptied my savings account to buy it. Apparently it was from a "safe" driving club in england some time in the twenties. It even lit up! It always reminded me of the Idskedarian hoon ornament. One of the coolest things I've ever seen. John
I've seen this one before, I really dig it. What's it off? I'll take two of these, one for the sedan and one for the ute.
Here a poster , I put together years ago.. The (top/bottom center ) ornament was on a 53' Nash wagon. -41-
Too cool, learn new stuff every day here. I was looking at a local Nash about a month ago and it had one of these on the hood. It also looked like the girl would come loose from the wings with two screws if you wanted to seperate it for a different look.
Heres a Link to 29 Mascot shots I have.... http://www.photozo.com/album/showgallery.php?cat=6859&page=1 (3 pages worth)... Bill j.
Here's a not so good picture of the one on my 55 Packard Patrician. Nothing really exciting about it, but it's a definate pedestrian killer!! This sucker is sharp! If the 4500# car doesn't get you, the chrome skewer on the hood will!! I was once told that hood ornaments were no longer made because of the danger they posed to pedestrians. That's why anything after the 50s are these wimpy little things with springs on them that pop off if hit. Don't know if that's true or not, but I can see someone pitching a bitch about it.
