Hey all. Hope I got this in the correct section. If not-mods please delete. Just got my 100+ yr old mantle clock back from a tuneup. I met the guy through a fav. barmaid ( her dad). Anyhoo, he seen my junk (down boys) and we connected being car guys. He delivered my clock in a perfect clone of the second serial # 1966 Shelby GT 350 (OK-OT) prototype. Anyhoo..... A couple of years ago during the last clock tuneup he mentioned that a friend of his had a 1957 Ford that might be available. Today I asked him about the Ford, and he immediately called the owner. Yes!- the car can be mine for the (asking) price of $5000 Sorry...dunno how to start new paragraph. Anyhoo.....390, 4 spd posi rear, ratio unknown , Fairlane 500 not a hardtop. I have not seen the car yet, but it is only about a half hour ride.My clock guy said he has heard it run, and it sounded good. The front fenders are off after being restored. The interior is very good, but out and stored indoors. I really do not have that kinda cash laying arouns, but if I cashed in my bottles-maybe? I had four 1957 Fords back in the 60's and I have a soft spot (or hard) about e'm. Do they have the same problem with the front crossmember turning to dust as the previous fords? I am really high on this, but want to be rational. Waddaya think?

$5000 is not a whole lot for a '57 Ford...depending on if it is a 2 door, general shape, etc.
I would be getting my butt over there to look at it...and bring some cash..
If nice it is a good deal..
    Good luck,

Its only 30 minutes away, go look at it, It doesnt cost to look.
5 grand could be high or dirt cheap depending on what it looks like and you can check out the front cross member while your there too if you dont get too excited and forget:D

Sounds like it could be a good deal, I personally like the post cars better;)

I've always regretted when I didn't "pull the trigger". Every time I've "pulled the trigger" I was happy. Just sayin'.

I think I'd be getting down there to check it out pretty quick. I love those '57's...especially the post cars and Rancheros. 390 and 4 speed is a huge plus. As said above, it doesn't cost anything to look.

By the way, you can start a new paragraph by hitting the enter key twice.

  11. FE and a four speed? You know it's a two-door, if it's not a total rust bucket and complete don't waste any time.....

    To start a new paragraph

Hit enter a couple of times.
Or hit enter once and the space bar a couple of times to indent.

Start a new paragraph when you start a new thought.

    Should you "pull the trigger/"

Only if you want to shoot at something...!

  20. Just check it over real good.
I looked at a 56 last week for an insurance company.
The owner claimed it had been fully restored and it was a show car.....
I wish I had taken my surf board, the quarter panel waves would have given a great ride. They had painted it with the mouldings in place and no primer.

Spoke with the owner earlier today. He is kinda tied up with church affairs this weekend, but will try to fit me in tomorrow. He said he has new tinted side glass for it (in the wrappers).

Here's the kicker! He says the engine and trans is from a 67 fairlane! THAT IS THE EXACT SAME ENGINE AND TRANS I HAD IN THE SAME BODY BACK IN 1969!!!!!!! Could it be one and the same? I have no records of the vin, and no memory of little things to id it. Not that it matters, because if it is halfway decent, I will be selling a bunch of crap on CL.

That would be a long shot but completely awesome if it were the same one, then it would become a absolute must have.

Did yours have the original paint still on it in 69? I know you remember what color it was,if so you should be able to look at a body tag and see what the original color was etc. etc. on this one.
There will probably be something else to ring a bell as well if its the same car.

I hope it is and you can post some pics if you get it, the suspense is really killing me now:D

I will be honest here, I was thinking if it wasnt a hardtop it would be the body style like the boxier post/sedan, kind of like chevy...Wrong!

I hadnt paid close enough attention that ford made em with the hardtop look with a post and when I first saw the car I thought, that isnt a post car but after looking closer I saw the post so I did a little home work and here is what I found, the body styles for 57.
(I like the boxier sedan best,I guess this one is called a club sedan)

More pics. I am wondering how much $ I could get for all the SS trim, inner fenders, GOOD interior, etc, etc, and build the car as a poor mans C or D Gasser? I consider the engine a core. The valve covers were sitting loosely on the engine, and sand and dirt was visible around them. I asked the owner why the covers were off, and he said he just wanted to inspect the VT. I ain't buying that.

Anyhoo. He does have a title. He sounds firm at $5000. I am thinking the rolling chassis is worth $3500 to me. Ya think I can recover the $1500 diff. from the crap I don't need (engine, trim, interior, bumpers, new side glass, inner fenders, etc.), or would it be too much a pita? And no- I do not believe it to be my old car. (based on the flame cut hole in the floor for the shifter) I used a cold chisel on mine!

Someone could have cut the hole bigger with a torch, if I were willing to go 3500 I would just offer 3500 to begin with and see what happened....if you are sure you are up to this big of a build.
