A good friend of mine took some footage of a big Car show in the Mid West in 1961-62. It is a bit shaky, but the film gives a nice view of the Custom Car and Hot Rod shows in the early 1960's.
Especially nice is the footage of Ed Roth his Beatnik Bandit which shows some of the automated features of the car. There is a few minutes of drag racing, and at the end it shows my own 1959 T-Bird which I named "Playboy's Chariot" painted in candy red over a silver base. I was advertising the 1961 Cleveland "Auto World Show" & that's why there is a sign on the passenger door. This was a very big show. Barris had his "XPAK 400 Air Car", Roth had the "Beatnik Bandit", & Cushenbury had his "El Matador". The Alexander Bros. also had a few cars there. There were also a lot of very well known national magazine cars at the show. This was a very unique show for the time. It featured new cars, rods, & alot of kustoms. It also had Sid Ceaser for the family entertainment. This was a 4 day show in October 1961. I sold my car at that show. Enjoy, Gary Birns Last edited by CHOP 57; 10-08-2012 at 06:59 AM.
