my way to chop a '41-'48 tudor sedan

  1. I know there are a few different ways to chop a '41-'48 tudor sedan,but this is the way I did it.
    with much help of a friend.

    the first thing I did was to remove the paint of the roof.
    then we cut the doors

    did some bracing in the body.
    we welded in some more square tubing after the pic

    cut some original bracing with the plasmacutter
    [​IMG]
    removed the original bracing behind the quarter windows.
    [​IMG]
    [​IMG]
    welded the passenger door to the body for support.
    [​IMG]
    the drivers door was removed and we added some more tubing of support
    [​IMG]
    removed the B pillars
    [​IMG]
    the first plan was to remove the intire rear section and weld it back in a different angle

    from the inside
    [​IMG]
    cutting the rear section
    [​IMG]
    [​IMG]
    nice hatchback.

    removed some centimeters of the A pillar

  2. new position of the roof

    I did'nt want to cut the roof and fill/stretch it with a piece of metal because of the radius of the roofline

    the first plan was to change the angle of the rear section of the roof.
    [​IMG]
    but that didn't work for me.
    so we are going for plan B !!
    we are going to remove a piece of 5 centimeter of the quarter panels

    the whole rear section moves up to the front and makes it much easier to
    line it up with the roof.

    cutting

    lost a few pounds
    [​IMG]
    put everything together with clamps
    [​IMG]
    the other side also
    [​IMG]
    the tile's in the car are to recieve the proper stance.
    the car was much lighter in the back. I removed the interior and the propane gas tank.

    shortening the rear quarters
    [​IMG]
    [​IMG]
    the rear axle is moved up front 5 centimeter later on.
    recreating new rain gutter

  3. the plan is to move the battery to the trunk in the right fender.
    the bracing for it is allready made

    reshaped the quarters
    [​IMG]
    [​IMG]
    we used some cardbord reference pieces to make both sides the same

    the first step is made to reshape the fenders.

    reshaped the radius of the quarter window.

    the most difficult part of the chop.reshape the rear fenders :hammer:

    some labour behind the english wheel.

    it needs some minor massage:hammer:
    and filling.
     
  6. the other side.
    removed the hole for the gas filler door also.

    this hole needs to be filled with some new metal
    [​IMG]
    much hard labor on the englisch wheel.

    put everything together with clamps

    made some mig spotwelds

  7. the passenger side after some tig welding

    the drivers side needs to be done to.

    reshaped the upper part of the door.I want slanted doorposts.

    the B pillars needs to be done.
     
  8. the drivers side tig welded together

    and it goes on and on.

    after some welding on the inside and outside we rolled it outside.

    the upper side of the doors need to be replaced,so it looks a bit funny for now.
    the rear of the car goes down when there is more weight in the rear.
    gas tank and some more stuff.

    Will you be sliding the axle or the rear wheel opening to align them?

    i've seen guys trying to make a 444 volvo look like a ford never seen a guy cut up a ford to make into the proportions of a 444! :) Just kidding amazing work.

  15. Nice side profile on the chop. Hard to make these cars look rite with a chop. A guy in Oregon has basically the same profile, but with straight B pillars. He dropped the top straight down at the B pillars, angled the A posts, then reworked the rear and fenders like you did. No cutting out the back window and no cuts in the top of the roof. The drip rail in the rear lined up with the belt line crease on the body. The trunk lid dropped down and eliminated the rear pan above the splash pan. This was the 1st chop on one of these cars that I liked. It was still proportioned. Yours is the 2nd one I have seen that looks rite. I have had these cars for 45 years and am very critical of chops on them. You done good. Love it. Pat

    the back window is welded back in the original position.
    may this be a lesson for the next one who wants to chop it the same way.

    This model is a bitch to cut down but I think you did it the right way, just a bit of welding and a bit of lead and you are on the right way, see you next summer.

    Do yourself a favour, start wearing glove a GOOGLES. You've only got 2 eyes. They don't do well with sparks.
