Default Dual carbs: Stromberg WW or Rochester 2G?

I have access to both types, and would like pros and cons of running a pair of them on a Cadillac flathead with an Edmunds dual carb manifold. Is one easier to tune than the other, any common problems with either, etc. Looking for recommendations on which might be the better carbs to use in a pair. Thanks!

Both the Stromberg WW and Rochester 2-G series are excellent carburetors.

Both share one common issue and that is the local unavailability of tuning parts. Tuning parts ARE available mail order.

The Rochester carbs have fewer tuning parts available (idle jets, most air bleeds, emulsion tubes, etc. are fixed and must be drilled). These parts for the most part are removable on the Strombergs.

The Strombergs have one major design problem that is easily repairable. Since Stromberg used aluminum throttle bodies, as the aluminum oxidizes over time, the aluminum oxide tends to wear the throttle shafts. Any competant rebuilder will install bronze bushings in the throttle body (and a new throttle shaft if necessary) and this permanently solves the problem.

Early Strombergs also require a special jet wrench (available mail order) to remove/replace main metering jets.

Remember when acquiring a "set" of either that there are hundreds of different of each type, used for many different displacement engines. Do your homework, determine what carburetors will work best for your application, and acquire a matched set.

Jon.
