In 1975 and briefly in 1976, a bunch of street racers in British Columbia convinced the local authorities to shut down a strip of highway between Osoyoos and Keremeos for some legal street racing and attracted quite a few cars, including the 1965 GTO that belonged to the mayor of Keremeos.

All my old pictures were Polaroid, and they are either lost or terribly faded. Found two this weekend. Nothing radical but a 30,000 mi. really clean '65 Chevelle 283 3 speed 2dr post with air I bought from Beechmont VW for $1000.00. The girl in the chair was my then current girl friend. Was I really that skinny?

I don't have any pictures anymore since the first wife had them !

They were some greatest times for me and I did do a lot of street racing like the rest of us did . Back in the early 70's I had a few good cars but my best one was my 1969 Dodge Super Bee . Yellow with black stripe and black interior . Bought the car from the husband of a friend that my first wife worked with for $300 ! Car had 67,000 on it and was really clean too . He bought it new and I was the 2nd owner . I beat the living hell out of that car until I sold it for $300 to a kid back in the early 1980's .
The car was good to me but ended up going through 3 transmissions before I sold it ! I really miss that car more than any other I owned .
Back where I lived , if you didn't have a big block under the hood to bring with you , you didn't have a snowball chance in hell of walking away with any money !
our track was along an old road that was pretty straight and OK to race on . It ran between 2 farms with no houses in sight so we were safe to have the race when we wanted to .
I will have to say , I never ever remember someone getting into an accident or anything like that . We all had good cars that were very safe to run !
The closest drag track from my house was 75/80 in Monrovia , MD . The famous RT30 Raceway on RT30 in Thomasville , Pa was about 1.5 hours away and there were others that were with in 1.5 hours from our town .
Now most are all gone and no place to race a real 1/4 mile anymore . That just plain sucks !
The 60's & 70's were the GREATEST time for drag racing and time to have grown up ! I was born in 1953 and was driving legally in 1972 . I still do have the same mustache as I had back in high school but with more hair on the chin now .
Yes those were the BEST time for anyone to grow up that LOVED Drag Racing and very fast cars !

How about buying a carb from Super Shops on Saturday night and putting it on in the parking lot. I spent a lot of time and money at the Super Shops on 82nd street in Portland, OR. Man, those were fun times!

I ran across this old Super Shops transporter sitting along side the road in southern Oregon. I would love to have it to haul the my Willys to the track when it's finished. I had to take some pictures.

I probably went in a Super Shops a couple of times in my life. The one I was in was basically a wheel and tire store that had a few performance parts to go along with it. I'd visit Jackie's Automotive in Lubbock or either of the Hot Rod Exchanges in DFW before I'd go to one. But I don't guess any of them are around now, so........

I never visited super shops until the '90s when Erson owned it (maybe late '80s). The one locally was a tire store but it either had perfomance parts or woould get them within a day. I know why they went out of business, they even gave scruffy skinny germs like myself a mega discounts just for the asking. I remember when I needed a fuel pump in a hurry once they had a mallory 110 in stock I ended up with the pump and a by-pass regulater for about 40 bucks.

Damned shame they are not around any more.
