Anyone know where they make custom brass tags? I would like to get a copy of the one I have. It says
"SOLD BY BROKAW-BAUER Co. Ltd Chevrolet South Broadway at 50th Street Los Angeles, Calif." It's 1 inch tall and 3 inches wide. Any help would be appreciated!! Here is a picture of it. |

I had reproduction tags made by a car meet plaques shop in Pennsylvania, I'll look to see what the name was. There was a thread here on the HAMB about doing acid etch work, try a search on that topic. Bob

I would like the tag to look exactly like the original with one exception, I want to be able to read the tag from 2 feet away. It’s a cool tag but from arms length away it just looks blank. I would think someone on here knows someone who could copy it or make one just like it. Thanks for your help so far, I'll look into the trophy shop idea on Monday to see where that leads me. Anyone else?

Kirk! did a tech on acid-etching brass tags a couple years ago. That thread or a PM to Kirk might be a good place to start.
Here's the thread: http://jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=540911 |

Google Youtube for diy pcb (printed circuit boards).
They will show you how to etch brass at home. You make a copy of what you want on the computer then you copy it with a lazor copier. This is then placed on the brass and using an iron (like the one the wife has) you transfer the image to the brass. Put this into a solution of ferric chloride (from an electronic store). This will eat away everything except the image. Doesn't take too long. You can make either a positive or negative image. Your imagination is the only limit. Matt |

Ther's a couple good responses here re "DYI" etching. Using Word (or equivalent) on your computer you should be able to find suitable type fonts and reproduce the text from the original-you need a black on white positive to start. However, you may have to search a bit to find a Chevy Bowtie emblem that you'll have to paste into your layout.
