First KC-135 on production line in early 1956. Note the KC-97s still being built in the background.

It's a WWII German ME323 Messerschmitt transport plane.

Side note , most Messerschmitt 323's started life as transport gliders. A few were converted to powered aircraft near the end of the war. They proved to be to slow and to easy to shoot down. They were all lost to allied fighters .

This would be the Malcolm Loughead "Lockheed Hydraulic Brake Company" he formed in 1926.
Just before the infamous Lockheed Aircraft Company was started.

Infamous? To the Axis, maybe.

The Loughead/Lockheed saga is a highly interesting one. And, of course, relevant here because the brake company's patent was what was used to make the '40-'48 Ford juice brakes to coveted in the '50s to upgrade '28-'38 Fords.

Incidentally, according to Wikipedia, the aircraft company was named after the brake company, not the other way around. Both being a phonetic spelling of the founder's name.

This was the first use of the "Lockheed" spelling after 14 years in the aviation industry, the Scottish brothers wanted to have their name pronounced correctly.
