I remember seeing that. He has THE THX 138 plate. I think it was on a television show. I though he mentioned how much a ridiculous a price he had to pay for the California plate. |

![]() Universal’s handsome leading man Robert Stack shows Anne the latest gadgets he is installing in his hopped-up roadster, which he was about to race in the hope of setting a new amateur speed record on Harper Dry Lake, California in 1940.

Jay Leno's 300SL Gullwing was painted by Junior at Junior’s House of Colour and upholstered by Tony Nancy in 1971. Certainly the only Gullwing in the world with those hotrod credentials and Jay was smart enough to leave the paint and interior as they were.

Jon Bon Jovi has a big block 57 Nomad and his sound engineer has a '32 five window seen in Rod & Custom.
Kirk Hammett, guitarist of Metallica has a very cool '36 three window featured in Rodder's Journal. Bluesman Jimmie Vaughan has a custom 54 Ford. As mentioned, Jeff Beck has a big collection of hot rods, featured in Rodder's Journal a while back. Only a few are pictured here. |

I can quibble with that too. My dad bought his Gullwing new at Stuttgart in '56. The paint faded rather quickly, and my mother asked me to find a good painter to re-do it for my dad's birthday. I went to Barris, thinking that they could do custom paint as well as anybody, and it was painted candy blue by the same Junior Conway, who worked at Barris at the time.
