Pulled this hood ornament from the hood of an old truck out in the woods in SC. Got it home and tried to research it but can't find a picture of it ANYWHERE. Should've taken a pic of the truck, but it was raining and I didn't want to mess up my phone. So here ya go...

I DID Google it "dude", couldn't find it. Don't have to be a prick about it. Thanks for the answer anyway.
PS, Googled 1955 Studebaker hood, and the only thing I can find is the one below, and while it's CLOSE, it ain't it.

I'm wondering if that hood ornament could be from a Sterling? How "old"(looks late 40's-early 50's) of a truck carcass did the ornament come off of?
From Wikipedia: The Sterling name was originally used by an independent truck manufacturer, bought by the White Motor Co. ca. 1953. It was retired two years later. Although technically the property of the White Motor Co., and conveyed to its successor, Volvo-White Motor Co., which evolved into Volvo Trucks North America, the trademark had lain dormant so long that there were no grounds for objection when Daimler-Benz subsidiary Freightliner—whose trucks were distributed by White from the 1950s through 1975—resurrected it to supplant the Ford blue oval on their HN80 ("AeroMax") family of trucks after the purchase. The reason I say this is a good friend and a better mechanic gave me a framed pic of a truck with a hood ornament similar to the one you show and declared to me it was a Stude. I have a 41-47M5 truck and have looked at over 100 Studes and there's no similarity? Best of luck in your search!

Now, here's my thoughts; Found that one in the search for 1955. You'll notice the 8 in the center versus the S on mine. I can also tell you that there was no 8 under the hood. Many car Companies crossed over to the V8 in 55, so that may mean the difference in my hood ornament. Soooo, 54 or older? Also, I found that by around 52 the "S" logo on their hood ornaments had become more fluid, almost more of a wavy line than an S, and far less angular than the S on mine. I found a similar S on a 1949 hood ornament. So, I'm guessing pre-52. Need to research the Stude engine line in the early 50s next I guess...

Its off a 55 I know because I have had one.. There are differences between the deluxe models and lower based ones the "S" is on lower based trucks while "8" was on V8 trucks

Damn... So of all the hundreds of hood ornaments I passed up that day, this being the only one I grabbed just to bring something home with me, I guess I chose well, huh?

Yes, it was. And I thanked him for it. But I'm not going to sit there and accept the first answer, laced with piss and vinegar because it was a "waste of a thread", from some guy without seeing any kind of proof. I could claim the ornament came from Superman's personal fucking limo back in the 50s, hence the "S" on the front, but if I can't produce a picture of it ON a fucking Superman limo, it's just me saying it's a goddamn Superman fucking limo ornament. We straight?
Now, anyone else who feels like a tough guy, or has something to say about ANYONE's post that is OT, I suggest you take a look at my intro, read my bio, etc. before you start trying to piss in my Wheaties. I dish no bullshit, but I also TAKE no bullshit. I'm not here to have a battle of wits with anyone, and I'm not here to amuse the fucking keyboard cowboys of the world either. I'm here to build fucking cars and learn a few things.

No your not your an A** Wipe The reason I said it was a waste of time was not because you wanted to know the hood ordainment, but because you knew what you took it off of.. You stated that you stole it off a Studebaker truck in the woods. That means that you knew it was a Truck and a Studebaker, that also means you saw the truck which then means that you could have googled it till you found a picture that looked like the truck it was removed from... Not trying to be a hard ass just asking to use common sense. But since your still dumb and need to see it instead of looking for it her you go... http://www.waynesev.com/stude/

"not because you wanted to know the hood ordainment, but because you knew what you took it off of"... incorrect. True, I ASSUMED it was a Studebaker, and I could tell it was a truck (obviously). I wanted to know what year/model truck it was. I DID Google the years, but found nothing. I spent two hours Googling it before I posted here, where I knew I could count on the knowledge of the Members to steer me in the right direction.
"You stated that you stole it off a Studebaker truck in the woods"... wrong again. I didn't steal anything, it was from a salvage yard, yes the truck is in the woods, no the salvage yard owner did not know what year it was, and yes I paid for it. As stated above, it was tucked back into some overgrowth and I could not get a good look at the profile of the truck, AND it was overcast and raining. I saw the hood ornament on my way out of the third lot just before closing, and I was empty-handed. I had driven an hour and a half to find this lot and was not about to head back home without anything to show for my trip. So, I BOUGHT the hood ornament. I was hoping for a point in the right direction, not a pissing contest. Thank you Ranunculous, aircap, and mbstude for the help. Anyone else who felt the urge to throw insults, name-call, and/or stand on their pedestal and try to show everyone how awesome they were, I hope sometime I can offer you the same boundless knowledge and help you've given me.
