I know I'm only an FNG, but how about a thread with stock car photos from the beginning through, say, 1985 or so? NASCAR, USAC, IMCA, ASA, ARCA, etc. No jalopies or modifieds. Full-bodied stock cars. I'll kick it off with this one from the Dennis Unger collection - Fred Lorenzen taking the checkered flag from Johnny Shipman in the Yankee 300 USAC Stock Car road race at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

That was from 1964, by the way. Here's one of Curtis Turner taken the same day.

How about the start of that race...Parnelli Jones in a Bill Stroppe Mercury on the pole, with Lorenzen outside.

The shots from the 1964 race are very cool. How about more of that vintage or earlier?

Nobody digs "Vintage Stock Cars" more than I do!
But, I don't know if it's in keeping with what this board is all about. In fact I know it ain't. Maybe we can get away with '64 and earlier...Maybe '68? ![]() ![]() Joel |

Hey, if it's historic, let's don't get too picky about it. That last one is obviously a 1960 Chevy. If you have something of real stock cars a little earlier, bring it on. Here's a NASCAR lineup from 1957. I have no idea where.

Great Start Big John. I have always liked this picture. I was in a museum somewhere and they had it blown up HUGE on a wall! It was great.. My favorite part is the dad running with his kid for a "Safe" spot. Makes the whole "Silence before the storm" felt even more. Great shot! J Shaw

A legend in the Pittsburgh, and surrounding area, Blackie Watt. I think this is the car owned by Joe Pitkavich when it had the early Hemi. When the new style Hemi came out, Joe had one in the car with help from Chrysler Corp. Check out the shield in front of the windshield he could flip up after it covered over with mud/dirt.

My brother worked at Cajon before it closed and I still have a hat and decal from the 2004 season. Too bad tracks like that are being lost.
