There are a few originals still around, although most need tore down to the frame. Might as well build one from scratch.

This summer, I towed my 650 lb teardrop up the interstate about 2 1/2 hours- sometimes over 80 mph with a 31 "A" roadster with model A frame, 49 Cadillac engine, 40 brakes + no trailer brakes. No problem.

  10. i picked one up off evil bay..guy started building it and got it down to installing and sealing the trim..jumped on it for the price, hell i couldn't get near it building one myself...has modern doors, (slide down windows, screens) a vent with a fan...based on a Lil Guy's design..torsion suspension, new trailer tires on new aluminum mags..hell the doors alone are $500...i need to get a pic up....

Finished this one recently for a customer. It is based on a Kit Mfg, profile, but we made it 5 ft wide instead of 4. Has removable roof racks and a tongue box to house a/c

How about a replica of a 40's wooden "Cabin Car"?

This is my custom woody "teardrop." I know it is larger than most but, it allows me to bring the fam along on camping trips. It has bunk beds for the kiddos and a kitchenette for cooking inside. It also has A/C and a toilet - all the comforts of home. Polishing it was a bear. It was fun to build and I am looking forward to building others real soon. This picture was taken at the Parthenon in Nashville, TN.

Years ago Tex Smith did a article in his hot rod mechanics magazine about how to build a teardrop that you could hinge the rear pointed end of the body so you could tilt it up for tons of more room to stand up in.Kind of like a pop up camper. It was really cool .With a little back yard engineering and common sense, it can be done and still look good. He is a low buck hot rod builder that always says you can do it for less $ yourself and still play with the hot rods. For most of us today it is reality.

can some of you take pictures of your inside door latch mechanism. I have heard from a reliable source they might be similar to those used on Woodies.

Love the stand up idea. Other neat ideas can be found here on these larger but very well made Canadian units. Gary

I like it. Are you going to do a matching paint job? Or perhaps a contrasting / bright / safety color like candy orange?!?!? Gary

Tex Smith did a article years ago on tear drops how to build. He had a cool idea. He hinged it at the rear lower point so the whole body could be lifted up and supported with prop rods, locked in place and drop the screened apron (or canvas ) like a pop up camper so you could stand up in it. Cool idea it would make it a lot more comfortable.

He wasn't the first to think about using canvas sides on a teardrop.

Here's mine, just waiting in line for a rebuild.
