Well, I say we found it, but we did know that there were some cars out there before we took this walk. The property belongs to an older relative that we understand is preparing to liquidate. His daughter told us that she thought all that was out there was junk....might be a few pieces to make some yard art out of amongst this. This car was apparently built by one of my dad's first cousins. (his name is above the door). Obviously it was put together long enough ago that it seemed like a good idea to turn a 2dr 55 Chevy into a dirt track car. Joe passed away from cancer about 5 years ago. I'll add some more pics of what we found out there tomorrow.
Reminds me of when all the dirt track guys were running tri-fives without the front fenders, aww the good old days.
You need to get in touch with Mike Bell the historian at the Ga racing hall of fame. He might have pictures since it might have ran at Rome Speedway.
i like the hole-sawed roof... i dont think id try to fix it,, but i wouldnt trow it away... "yard art" haha...
There's a whole world of guys who restore and race these old stock cars. I'm sure someone would want to put it back on the track if you don't want to. Real old race cars don't exactly grow on trees anymore. And for what it is it's really not in that bad of shape, a lot of restored stock cars look like hell under the paint and bondo anyways.
Heck, a little bondo and some primer, she running. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Like I told the kid, "Your music's not too loud, its just like OKC, it sucks!"
WOW, your cousin was Joe Mannix!!! I used to watch his TV show, one hell of a P-eye! Save that thing.
Reminds me of the tir-fives my dad had back in the day.He also ran at dixie, rome, douglasville and senoia(when it was dirt). We lost all of his pics when downtown Rockmart flooded in the early 80's.great to see an old racer still around.Pop crushed most of his after they were used up.Fix it and bring it to Rome one night,I would love to see it.I have seen your other cars you can do it!
