It's nice (or is it SAD?) to see that it isn't just modern America who doesn't know the difference between THERE, THEY'RE and THEIR.

  10. All of these photos were posted on Islip Speedway Facebook today. So don't BS us here. It was either Islip 1 or Islip 2 FaceBook.

Posted by Kris Holberg. No one likes a BSer. https://www.facebook.com/groups/islipspeedwayfans2/

I owe you an apology, Geotek. Kris informed me that he picked up the photos from the HAMB. I jumped the gun and stuck my foot in my mouth. Great find of some great photos of my old home town track where I and my children grew up.

I wonder what building this earlier one titled Moving Coolidge effects, 3/1/27 with the stylish swazi frieze is...

Strange bird, 1935 Desoto Airflow SG Airflow was
photographed in Stratford Ontario in 1940. FlickR
member vinnyvrg says it is shown with the owner
(his uncle) and a nephew. He noted the bumper had
been switched to a '34 Chrysler Airflow version.

Hey Inspector Gadget - nice 'work' but his Islip HAMB post in question predated those FB posts by 7+ hours. Takes stronger evidence to go after someone. Just sayin'...

And another from Vinny that's not exactly "factory." His comments:
"This 54 Lincoln Capri was sold new in Stratford, Ontario, by Wurster
Motors the local Meteor Mercury Lincoln dealer at the time. Born as a
white car with a light brown top, a local doctor purchased it and paid
to have it changed to black and the accessory continental added be-
fore he took delivery. I purchased it in 1972 and it still drove out real
nice and all the options were working well. The body had suffered the
normal amount of rust but it still had its original applied black finish
and had never been accident damaged. I stripped all its chrome and
interior and repaired the rusted metal and repainted it in Black Lac-
quer. The 56 Mercury belt mouldings were added at that time. During
its restoration when it was stripped of all its heavy bumpers, interior
etc I took it for a drive. I was amazed at the power it had and how well
it shifted and performed with the Hydramatic transmission. There was
no trouble laying down the rubber, even between shifts. No wonder they
did so well in the Mexican road races during their time."

And HEEERE'S VINNY! :) He obviously has a deep love of autos and his family.
His comments: "This 39 Mercury Convertible was our family's second car from
1949 till 1953. This photo shows how it appeared when my father first purchased
it in 1949. Photo was taken in Stratford Ontario Canada. I am the one sitting on
the fender closest to the front with the dark jacket. My older brother is standing
and a cousin is beside me."

Wouldn't it be GREAT to say you'd had such an early Merc 'vert in your
family??? The headlight bezels caught my eye, but an astute FlickR member
noted that they were '40 seal-beam conversions, explaining the visual discon-
    nect. Cool!

Vinny's lovely mom with the'39 Mercury Convertible shown in rear view. His comments:

"This photo shows our family's '39 Mercury from the rear after its mild custom job in 1953.

It has had the rear fenders moulded to the body. Oldsmobile tail lamps and rear bumper

are added as is a Continental spare tire. The rear suspension was lowered as well."

Couple of photos from my dad's collection. The Model A must've been taken in the mid/late 40's not sure about the second one... my dad is actually behind the wheel of the 40 Ford.

Thanks SouthUrn. Seems like someone forwarded them on (not me). It would have been nice if that person asked me before doing it (I would have said yes). Glad that everyone else enjoyed.
