History When Did the "Bobber Truck" Style Begin?

The trucks pictured may be nice...........but, they are no way "traditional". This being a traditional site, some don't believe they belong here.

Damn, although relevant to the discussion, I think you might be on the wrong board. Have you ever thought about joining the "Existential Jalopy Journal"?

 

A coupe that is chopped,channeled, hoodless and fenderless is called a traditional hot rod. Why not a truck.

 

I don't think everyone is on the same page here. The term "bobber truck" today means a post '34 pick up, fenderless and with out a hood. I have seen them built from '70's cabs.........not pretty.
Norm Grabowski built the Kookie Car, a model T. The truck from Car Craft, pictured above is a 1934............The 'Rudy Truck" ,also pictured above, is a good example of a 'bobber truck'. THOSE are the trucks we are talking about.

Is it just me, or did all the hubbub around Jimmy Shine's truck influence the look of Rudy's truck, which was built outta what Rudy had laying around the back yard...?

Rudy's truck had just as big an impact as Jimmy's.

All studies in orthadoxy do this.
Maybe my memories from childhood are clouded, but the later trucks being built in the "bobber" style were some sort of gasser truck evolution. Seen as an unskilled, underfunded atempt, the old guys of the time (the '70s in my experience) didn't like them though they were credited with being cheap and light along with ugly. We kids drew pictures of the idea, but those were mostly square "designs" similar to pre-35 Fords.
None of those times were before '70. I tend to believe the bobber truck idea is a result of the dwindling population of cheap old cars at the time along with the yet to depreciate value of muscle era cars.
