I was hoping the thread would stay true to the course, with photos predating WW2, but the rail car magazine article is post war, as are several of the cars in it ('68 Checker Marathon). It's a great item, and rail cars in photos before the war are most welcome, but the photos and material from after the war is better posted on any of the other threads on the HAMB.

Going back to the first post when the thread began: "I thought it would be fun to start a thread for photos taken before WW2, with one very simple rule: please post only photos that were taken before WW2."

Please, please - stick to this and the interest we've had with this thread will remain high. I'm hoping everyone, including Road Runner (post 733) and UnsettledParadox (post 737) will oblige.

With apologies to Early Guy, I think this originally came from you. 1913 McLaughlin Buick Model 24 roadster.

Wonder what that axle would look like after the two 90HP 6 cylinder engines were installed?[IMG]

    Cannuck-no problem at all-post away.

Here's a 1913 Buick-loaded. Just proves even non na long trip there's no reason to open the hood on an early Buick.

And a pic of a couple turnip farmers with their 1905 Cadillac. I'm not saying these guys could be relatives of T-H and T-6, but do they have turnips in New England?

    Big Lizzie:

    Exerpt:
"Calder Highway, Red Cliffs. This massive traction engine is the largest ever built in Australia. So large and so slow that it took over two years (1917-1919) to make the journey from Melbourne to the Red Cliffs area. It weighs over 45 tons, is 34 feet long, 11 feet wide and 18 feet high. It was powered by a 60 horse-power single cylinder Blackstone crude oil engine weighing 8 tons. The turning circle was something to marvel at; it took 200 feet radius to turn it around. It towed two massive trailers, each with their own water and oil reserve tanks, and had an overall carrying capacity of 80 tons."

MrFire, welcome aboard and thank you for sharing the great photos. Do you have a larger image of Big Lizzie you could post? I'm sure many would enjoy seeing more of that massive machine! And is the Michael Taylor whose pix you posted in NZ by any chance?

T-Head thanks to adding that it turned out to be a scam. As 37Kid said,
there are too many things about this that aren't mechanically realistic.
Actually it looks like a bizarre movie prop!

Leave it to T-Head to milk a gag! LOL

And as for Post 702, my vote goes for: There was manipulation of multiple images to get a pretty fishy-looking publicity photo. If PhotoShop had been available back then, it could have been done way more effectively, IMO. I'm guessing negative matting was done in the dark room, exposing different parts of the neg with two or more source images. But WHY? No clue here!
