I've got a lot going on today and not much time for a post. So I figured today would be a good time for a motion picture... In 1956, the country was being swept by shitty movies evangelizing the seedy underworld of hot rodding. "Hot Rod Girl" is o...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
Those old hot rod movies like this were pretty flaky representations of hot rodding but you do get to see some cool period cars and places. You can also see the entire film on the link on IMDB with the credits such as Chuck Connors in his pre-Rifleman days. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049335/ Another old one to watch is "Hot Rod Gang".
I think the last thing I'd want to do to an asshole who was intentionally swerving at me and bumping me is race. I think I'd go Berserker Barrage on that fool. However kids there is a lesson to be learned haha!!! Some pretty swell cars in that movie if I remember correctly!
I think the best one is "Dragstrip Girl"! Another appearance by Frank Gorshin and the Ivo T has a starring role.
I enjoy watching theses old hot rod movies . Yea they are corny to some of us but back in the 50's they were really great ! I have this one on DVD and have a lot more ! A great box set to get with many of these old car movies on is Burnt Rubber . You can find it on that on line auction along with some other places you get these older movies from . You also get to see some of the Greatest car builders that we all love as well in their early years . You always get to see the Real Hot rods as they were ! Today just might be a great day to drag out the old hot rod flicks and watch them since the weather is going to be crappy anyway ! Retro Jim
Have a ton of old Hot Rod movies...watch them when I need a "back in the day" fix....just like old 50's "Sci Fi" movies... love to look at the cars in the background and on the streets.....especially love the scenes that show cars at the "Drag Strips"...!
'Hot Rod Girl' was a pretty fair representation of hot rodding in that time. To say 'there may have been a few hot rod hoodlums that gave all the rest of us a bad name' is merely foolish. In Los Angeles, there was a law enforcement quest to abolish 'hot rods'. The Los Angeles Hot Rod Show had police photographs of every street roadster leaving the show, for future identification. History is documented, and we were not all 'angels'... Not to validate those actions, but to deny them is a popular pastime these days: "We have to change our history..." How do you do that? LOL
This is a great movie. Sometimes its nice just to watch the old movies. "hot rod gang" was also pretty corny as someone mentioned above but I seem to continue watching them
I first saw this movie on the late late show in Los Angeles when I was about 12, that one along with The Cool & The Crazy, old b&w films about drugs really freaked me out! At the time I thought the movies were cool, they were new to me and very exciting but now they seem tame and a bit amateurish but enjoyable just the same.. I still watch Highway Patrol just to enjoy the endless stream of 1950's cars all over the place!
just watched it all over again to freshen the cylinders daddy o . It reminds me all the dragstrips that our forefathers started are now being shut down and street racing is coming back in social... or really never left... bunch of squares
If you ever come across an episode of Highway Patrol where there is supposed to be a roadster used in a stick up and then a car chase I would love to know about it. The Roadster that flipped over and killed the kid in Hot Rod Girl was also in a episode of Highway Patrol.
brandyspaw - Thanks for link to watch movie. I have it on DVD but, like other stuff I have will watch it on TV or computer if it comes on before going into collection - lazy I guess.
'Hot Rods to Hell' is still my favorite... "Who are these animals?..." Great dialog by Dana Stevens LOL
Although this is one of the better examples, I admit that I dig them all. Coincidentally it's on the big screen at a vintage theater next week as part of the Garter Belts and Gasoline festival at Mount Tamborine. http://www.garterbeltsandgasoline.co...ntdetails.html
