Always wanted to do a straight axle car.How fast can that set up go before it makes a person nervous.Ive seen 9 sec cars and they seem to do fine.

On both the Comet and the Falcon it made the car better at the top end. The stock front end was a pain on tire wear and that was with new front end parts, when you took off from the starting line the alignment would tow in and you would scuff the heck out of the tires. A lot of people ask about the handling of a straight axle car and its like anything else just make sure you take your time and do the install right.

I think you have to upload your pictures to a host site like photobucket. It's described here:

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65684

I'm still a FNG too, and haven't tried it yet.

And by the way, all these pictures of the 64/65 Comets are great! Thanks for posting them.

Need help finding a center cap for my cragars.Building the 65 with an SOHC and trying to reduplicate the way the first four came from the factory or bill stroppe's shop. They all came with a set of cragars with a special center cap.I have three and I only need one more. Heres a picof what one looks like next to an anniversery cap. [email protected]

Lol....that's actually a Cyclone that was on EBay this week. I wanted to get it for parts. I could use a rt door and maybe a better trunk than what I have. But I chickened out and didn't bid. It sold for $255.00.

That's some great stuff. I don't have any "real" pics, so I figured I'd give you some of my versions.

These aren't '64 or '65s, but the '66 flip top Comets were legendary trendsetters.

On the Dyno Don 65 above note that it still has the factory front suspension in that shot along with the rear end moved way forward. Compare that to page 11 with the straight axle which is moved forward and notice too the vent windows are gone. There are a few other changes during the race season if you can find more 1965 pics of it.

Tom;that may be a clone. The Sox and Martin car was a Caliente when they started with Mercury, not sure if they later got a Cyclone. Most of the 64's started out as Calientes.Bitchin car anyway!! ROY.

Ths site that those came from had several "street" tribute cars including this one and a couple T-Bolts. Not a race car or the real deal, but the lettering is very cool.

There is a pic of what is supposed to be the real Sox Comet in the Thunderbolt thread.
