  4. Some of the best dry lakes footage ever, that looks to be Alex Xydias at the end getting out of the bellytank.

I absolutely loved that. I'd never seen any of it before. The spin dizzies I thought were cool sitting on the shelf but to see them in action is awesome! The El Mirage footage was great, especially the in car footage. It's good to see the hero always gets the girl. Thanks fo that!

I agree about the midget racing. We go to a show in Lima, Ohio and they have a couple days of racing there on the dirt oval. Always some of my favorite stuff.

    Great footage for sure.

"these old cars may look like the familiar old jalopy, but there innards have been streamlined and given a shot of motorized adrenaline."

just confirms i was born in the wrong decade. thanks for the footage from those of us who never got to see this stuff when it actually happened.

Aww shucks, who needs those Squirrels and their "GOOP WAGONS" anyways?

My new favorite short movie right now form the awesome one cylinder engined cars to the lake footage I watched twice so far.

    "Ol Henry's V8 with fouw-er Car-Beu-Ratas"

    I love the commentary!!!!

That was amazing.. and I have seen and own several old dry lakes videos/movies. You know how you look at a book like the birth of hot rodding and imagine what it might have been like to be there? this video kind of brings things to life. i am definitely going to show my dad this. he used to go see the midgets race in Missouri in the 1950's.. and later raced midgets and sprint cars in the 70's & 80's Thanks..

Cool stuff. My wife's dad raced midgets around that time. He said he ran at Carroll Speedway and Legion Ascot. He may have run at the Coliseum too. He worked a night shift at Northrop and worked on cars during the day. When he got moved to the day shift he met up with some guys who were into "sporty" cars. So he started racing an MGTC and then a TD. Blew the motor on the TD and put in a V8-60 and ran modified class. The whole deal was so different back then. Driving in T-shirts and cardboard helmets, no seat belts or roll bars. In fact, dad-in-law said that one of the reasons he quit was because they started requiring seat belts and he though they were unsafe! He said if he lost control he wanted to be able to jump out!

Great video, I am one of those fortunate enough to have seen the midget's run at the Coliseum back in the day. I was just a little kid at the time but it made a lasting impression on me.
