Saw this on the KABC and KNBC news outlets last night, and figured they were just copying a news story in a paper, like they always do. So here it is:

I'm considering getting another 56 Ford in the near future and I'm hoping I can put an Anti Theft system in it like my 93 Escort has. Im not sure it's possible with a stock motor and stock ignition system. Any thoughts on this?

this is very unfortunate..and the bummer of it is, if they are professionals . they will get your car. no matter what theft system you have. best advise to those that care..watch your ride like as if it were your 2 year old just learning to walk.

one thing to do to slow thieves is to have one of those battery disconnects. I had one behind the grille in my last car I had. it has a big red key deal that you removed and it cut the negative cable. so while they could tow it, they couldn't drive it.

..you ever see one of those repoman tow trucks work? the controls are inside the cab. they can back up, pick up a vehicle and be gone down the street in no time. kind of like picking up a pallet with a forklift

I doubt it would help much in these instances, as the thieves likely used trailers/rollbacks, but installing 1 or 2 kill switches on your car can make a world of difference. Unfortunately, old cars are just easy to break into. I remember a few years ago reading an article where people were stealing the engines out of old cars with hood latches in the grille.

prolocks just sont work on old cars, cause its just to easy to run a wire from the batt. to the coil.
what you can do is take a wire from the coil to a switch under the dash, run a wire from the swtitch to metal upholstery button on the drivers seat.put another metal button on the seat backrest, and run a wire from that button to ground. leave the switch on whenever you park. anyone tries to start your car and ZZZAPPP!!!!wont kill em, but it will scare the shit out of em:) unless they use a towtruck

i have one question to ask the local law enforcement and the local shipping companies.. If they are admitting to knowing about these cars getting placed in shipping containers and shipped over seas. than why is it still happening?
no pressure on the shipping companies? hey as i understand the laws ..possesion is 9/10ths of the law. some stolen auto owner should have the right to hold the shipping company liable. And the local law/courts should be charging the shipping companies for obtaining stolen automobiles. and international trafficing of stolen property..WTF some ones nuts needs to be in a vice here.

These work great as long as you are near the receivers.
They will fit well right beside the pistol on the nightstand.
You set these right on the floor pointing towards the door.
I used the last one on this list for five years now. And it was cheap.

This has been talked about before but well worth repeating..

    Here are a few variations.
They differ in price and probably distances.

Yes, we have one. Just so you know, it's referred to as a "self-loading wheel lift".

I can have a car hooked and rolling down the street in about 15 or 20 seconds. And no, I don't need to get out of the truck for any of it.

Here's a Dynamic that is identical to what we use.

You want to put in "an anti-theft system like my 93 Escort has".

    Really.

You have an anti-theft system in a 93 Escort.

And what do you do if the front wheels are turned full-lock one way or the other? It won't track straight down the road behind you.
That's not a problem with our early non-locking steering columns, but getting one of those locking bars across the steering wheel, with the tail of it down against the door or something so the wheels can't straighten out. What about it?

I didn't put it there. The car only had 37,000 miles so it was pretty new when I bought it and only 4 years old. Point well taken though, I've never seen those on the top of the stolen list like a Camry or Honda and that's one of the things I like about the car.

Anybody see that Die-Hard anti-theft battery that they were selling a few years ago. It had a remote like a regular car alarm that let you shut off the battery, only allowing enough voltage for your stereo presets to stay, but not enough the crank.

They also make lo-jack that you can install in your ride. It won't stop it from getting stolen, but it'll help you get it back, hopefully before the thieving bastards fuck it up

If you are really concerned about it getting stolen from a location like your driveway, a break-wire to trigger an alarm would work pretty well.

Connect the wire between the car & the ground. When the car moves more than a few inches for any reason, wire breaks and triggers your alarm.

This sucks. If you read the article there is a link to site www.wsati.org you can post photos of a stolen vehicle and it get distributed to all agencies. Hope this will at least help a little.

I like that idea! Safer than my idea for a spring-loaded spear in the steering column...
