We've talked about Turbonique more than a few times here on The Jalopy Journal as well as on the H.A.M.B., but a user tipped us off on this one (thanks John!) and I had to post it. Zachary Reynolds (of R.J. Reynolds fame) had this car built in the 6...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
Fly me to the moon........ damn..thats killer I saw a flip top turbonique cougar funny car last summer at the lancaster drags.... Killer read....
Yeah... pretty cool. To be honest, the turbonique stuff doesn't interest me all that much past just being kooky cool, but I love the story behind this one. Really neat read.
WOW. Can you imagine the adrenaline this would send coursing through your veins? The balls to strap something like that to the back of a car .... America's politicians pussed us out. That is BEAUTIFUL in a SCARY looking way. I wonder what that will go for at auction.
Talk about a visual punch in the nose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!That car look's stunning.I agree with you Ryan the rocket dont do it for me me either, but still the idea of it is over the top. Someone was smoking some good shit when they came up with that idea GREGG
This suddenly has influence on my own 64 500XL project..... minus the rocket axle of course. the high stance is just dirty, dirty mean. "Ma! I'm headed into town to look fer trouble! I left some bail money on the table. Don't drink all my beer whilst I'm gone!!"
For those too lazy to read ... makes a good bedtime story I imagine... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1ebbzZUa40
It was probably an auto, because if it was a standard, i have a feeling pushing in the clutch with a rocket strapped to the axle would be interesting.
There's a local guy with a '64 Ford sedan (Custom 300??), bright red and well detailed with a 427 SOHC / 4spd drivetrain. Real bitchin car!
I've got an idea. I know were i can get a 64 4 dr with good floors. my 500XL 2 dr needs floors, & it's an original 390/4spd top loader car... which I'd like to keep in that car & just lower the whole car a bit & make a respectable cruiser out of. But the 4 door, I could make my own floor for that old bugger, tub it while I'm at it. Give it that "I'm gonna kill you" stance like the rocket car above.... then.... the secret ingredient..... why a 4 door? shhhhhh, come closer so I can whisper........ Psssst, Mayberry PD on steriods..... (evil laugh)
That car looks so perfect it almost makes the story unbelievable. Coolest musclecar story I've read in a while.
Numbers anyone? I've seen this car mentioned in a few places yet no one seems to have any performance numbers...quarter mile, 0-60 etc etc... I love the story, the car's special features, Galaxies, the Ford 427 and the outrageous Turbonique story and all that jazz, but how about some numbers? Can anyone produce a 1/4 mile slip for this monster? All the best-W.S.
Hells yeah! That's a gasser-stance I can relate to. Reminds me of that episode of "CHiPs" with the bank robber who put J.A.T.O. bottles on his second-gen Camaro. I usually don't like '64 Galaxies (my old man rocked a '61 Custom two-door post) but this one rules.
I don't hold much love for tobacco companies or the people that made tons of money getting people addicted to their poison, but I have admit this is a very cool car.
If this were your car back in the day who, other than yourself, would you put behind the wheel? I'd like Bud Faubel of the "Honker" Dodges since he flew Sabre Jets in Korea and ran a turbocharged Dodge.
Yeah...I was wondering what it will go for, as well. Something as unique as this, no never know. Sure like to have it setting in my garage. Scratch that. It's spent enough time setting. Better yet taking it on a road trip across the country. Smokinnnnnnnnnn I'll take a wild ass guess. $225M
Quote from my friend Dan, who hates Ford's. He Emails me today and Say's "I want that FORD I thought I would never say that, but the one on JJ is just right. WOW!" ...lol It doesn't matter what Rods you like. That's just a SICK ride. I would love to hear that baby start up. I say it sells for about 31,819 Packs of Pall Malls.
Love those Galaxies. Had a 427XL yrs ago. What a ride. He proly bought the 390 car to get the auto trans. Couldn't get an auto w/427. Can't imagine kik'n in an extra 850 hp.
