Who has a Gasser style car ? Stand up and be counted !

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by AHotRod, Feb 9, 2004.

  1. I'm right in the process of starting the build up of my 34 5-window that will have a blown 392 in it . . . with lots of fun "gasser style" things on it. I've spent the last 1.5 years on the dang engine --> took months to just figure out the combination I wanted -- lots of bench racing and imagineering to figure out everything.

I've found two sets of original Donovan top-fuel heads, spent too damn much money rebuilding the darn things, getting rockers made, finding Donovan 417 valve covers, etc.. I'm hoping we can get enough water through the exhaust side to cool the beast -- guess we'll find out the hard or easy way

Anyway -- the car is not going to have a straight axle in it -- actually it is a high-boy style will be chopped 3" or so (not channeled), but will have a heavy drop in the front axle. I'll run some sort of Halibrand 60's style mags, probably cheater slicks, etc.. I'm building an old-school Frankland rear for it - with 9" Ford style axle tubes and other stuff.

Anyway - enough of my babble -- here is a picture of the car as it now sits . . . just starting to take things apart and start in on the heavy chassis work!

I'm going to create a thread on the engine bulid-up and assembly (to help others who want to see the head, blower, belt drives and cooling setup).

Yeah im sure that was me a couple years ago, probably in about 8 shades of primer. I had one guy ask me if it was a V-6 because it only has six stacks I laughed and said no its just six carbs on a 283.

Very cool post thanks to all who posted pics. I'm glad to see the majority of this style is limited to 55 chevys, willy's, and novas. I've been colecting parts for my gasser project for a while now. I noticed a lack of shoebox fords and I thought this odd because of how cheap they are. I picked up a 49 coupe for 300 bucks, a complete modelA axle wishbone setup for 5 dollars, and a 292 Y block for free. I found an old 6 carb drag star for the Y block. I also have an extra 401 buick laying around??? Any way I'll get it started after the spacetruck project, should be fun. I'm thinking all that plus some thunderbird buckets a moon tank out front and no hood with stacks, maybe in a matalflake red or blue. Drilled modelA axle, and a old pontiac rearend. Can't wait is taken over my dreams, they are addictive.

[IMG]I have a 57 chevy 2 door post BelAir. I'm trying to build a gasser. I'm still looking for information, or pictures on straight axles, ladder bars, fender well headers, fiberglass doors, or anything else that would help. Is there anyone out there willing to cut me a break??????? Thanks, Joe P.S. My car has 3 pedals!!!
