I remember in 1964 I was in the stands at Detroit Dragway and Dodge had two match Dodges called the "Chargers" they were nice looking and they ran against each other speed was 135 mph. Then Jack Christman pulled this 64 Comet out them a Mercury Station Wagon came up a long side the Comet, Jack had this Silver Fire Suit on and got in the Comet, someone pluged in jumper cables were the parking light was, then they squirted Nito in the injectors sticking out of the hood. It started and he pulled it to starting line, it sounded like a Dragster when he took off he Smoked the Slicks the full quarter mile and did 148 mph. The stands were full and they standing the for the run. Jack put those " Chargers" to shame.~~~~~~~~AFX DAVE~~~~~~~~

I remember seeing basically the same show put on by the white comet at Atlanta speed shop. it was 1964, I was 13, and i loved drag racing already, but seeing that comet smoke the full 1/4, just did it for me.

    Myron.

It Was Pretty Good. There was 9 70 -71 Cyclone Gt.s and Spoilers that showed, there was only three that showed up in Carlise. Most I've seen in one spot

Ken; thanks for posting those pics. Those are the first runs at Cecil County Dragway with the new motor and new torque converter. The Wheelstand picture I had foot braked at 2200 and had a 1.26 sixty foot, it had a slight miss when shifted to second and ran a 9.04 at 147 mph. Thanks for the compliments about the Comet!!

Looks like a great Ford show, almost had more Comets than Fords at Carlisle! Like that 65 Comet Wagon. Steve.

I might be mistaken but I think Canadian Rancheros were sold with Comet front ends in 1965.

Mummert;NO,that is just a rumor,by the mid 60s or so,most Canadian Fords and Mercs were pretty much the same as US cars. ROY.

I had one like the blue '64 once, bought it wrecked in Birmingham, AL and drove it to Atlanta. It had been hit in the right front and the wheel was laid in at the top. I had to stop on the way home and buy another right front tire when I wore the first out on the side. This was stored at a race track where I used to work and got gone when the track changed hands with out me knowing it. I also had a silver one there too. I was going to make one good one out of the two. These days either would have beek a great find to restore, no rust, needed a couple of front fenders and a little time on the frame machine.
