Winter is for building old cars.

Summer is for driving old cars...

    and drinking beer..

    and going to the lake.

Over the summer, I'll be working on the frame some, and the body a lot..

And buying parts. Cleaning the garage. Organizing the garage.

But that's what I do during the winter too.. It's an never-ending cycle.

It's been nearly 2 years since I've actually driven an old car. This is getting played out really quick.....I'm completely over not having a runner.

I'm so close but this last 5% is kicking my ass and taking longer then the other 95%.

Ummm, yeah, see my "why in the hell" thread

Your theory is sound, but somehow I seem to be incapable of following it.

This past winter was spent tearing everything down.

    This Summer:

    -Finish frame repairs
    -Install suspension
    -Install axles
    -Install new brakes
-Make a decision on wheels and tires

This coming winter - rebuild the engine (if I can save up enough)

    Next summer - body work

Well, at least it's a plan...

    1. install freshly rebuilt heads on my '56 Ford
    2. install tachometer and air speed indicator on my '31 Ford
    3. replace the current folding boat seats in the '31 with a home built bomber style bench seat.
    4. drive 'em

49 - replacing exhaust (from headers to tailpipes, including cutouts and lake pipes)

    31 - brakes (new backing plates/bendix brakes)
    repaint wheels
    get overdrive working

    That's the short list.

The longer list includes coverting the 49 to 12 volt and repainting the dash, and building a kickpanel, and maybe connecting some pipes/mufflers to the 31...

    There's always something...

Finish the bed on the 49 this weekend
    Bolt running boards on
    Drive the wheels off

  17. Rolling my 55 Caddy outside for pics and spring cleaning. Then onto the front fender mock up to start core support mounts and bumper mounts. My car hasn't been able to roll since late summer of 64. Cant wait to see its stance outside

I still have my 55 Ford to get back on the road . I have to install a new build 302 engine I built and C4 trans , rewire the car , finish up all the body work that some other idiot asshole did with thousands of pop rivets and gallons of filler . I already removed all the filler and scraped all the paint off so I still have a good ways to go yet before she is "road worthy" and in primer .
Over the winter I had my right hand operated on and it's not healing like it was suppose to . having lots of problems with using it and too much pain in 2 fingers that I never had before . So I am way behind right now . :(
I was hoping to have it up and at least running to drive it to the Jalopy Showdown in May but it's not looking too good right now !
Anyway I hope to be driving mine here before too long I hope since the weather has gotten nice here in Pa. ! :D
Good Luck to everyone with their projects and hope to see you all at a car show one day !

I have a ton I wanna do, but realistically if I could get the patches on the galaxie and in primer I would be happy.

Damn! The years a quarter gone and I still don't have my Sporty on the road. Usually the build for me is what it's all about and I just dump them when finished to start another project and avoid the cost of insurance/tags etc. But with this one I really feel like driving it. It's been two years since I've had one of my own to drive and it's time. On the road by June and to Wildwood for the Boardwalk Nats this Fall.

Erm, yeah. Theoretically this is going to be a running, driving, painted, and plated car by September.

    Wish me luck...

This is exactly how I got my car on the road. Hand written notes taped to the car. Check it off one at a time...

My goal is to get the speed boat stance and skirts on my 52 chevy. Make it more traditional. That and get the side glass back in it.

I hear you on this one....After being very "occupied" for the last, 5 years, I'm finally free (somewhat) to get this pile of parts on the road. The "Dust Bowl Special" finally lives!!
I've had to get rid of just about everything else but that's really helped me to focus on this and just keep ticking away on it. I sometimes can only work 30 minutes at a pop on it but I've forced myself to focus on small areas at a time. It's very much like eating an elephant...one small bite at a time. After taking the first blast under it's own power down the alley the other morning, I'm even more motivated now.

  26. This spring, let's see:

-Reassambly step by step while hunting the last missing spare parts.
    -mounting and balancing the 16"-Firestone-Whitey's!
-enjoying every piece that's gonna be fixed to the car.
    -barbeque, beer, friends and music.
-watching the H.A.M.B. watcha doin' this spring!
-working on the car without blowing the heater, but with the gate wide open!

have a nice spring you all!

Gonna keep plugging away on my Essex all summer long. Hopefully I'll get some of the bodywork done and the chassis finished up before winter.

man, I feel like you wrote this thread about me.. I cant seem to get motivated lately. At least it would seem Im not alone! Yeah, this last saturday it rained, and the sunday it was super windy so I didnt even get anythng done. My goal for the next couple months is to finish up my frame and get my car to be a roller, shorten the torque tube, convert my radiator, shorten the steering column, set up the steering box, then mount the body and start on the patch panels etc. With any luck, ill be able to fire it up this summer. I took a chance on a 21 stud flatty. seems like it'll run. Spins free, but all the other little details overwhelm me. That's my goal anyway. Just saying it out loud..
