Anyone have a side-by-side picture of 1947 to 1953 / 1954 chevrolet trucks in the 3100 and 3600 series? I am trying to get a feel for the size difference and havent really been around both at the same time, and very few in general. I've been looking for 3100s to buy but i saw a 3600 that sparked my interest is why i ask. Thanks for the help!
A 3100 is a half ton while a 3600 is a 3/4 ton with 8 lug wheels. The wheelbase is the big difference but some half tons also have the long wheelbase. link to photo of stock 3600 http://www.stovebolt.com/gallery/marks_roy_1951.html 47 3100 here plus a lot of info http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1947-1955-chevrolet-trucks.htm
more info here http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-heritage-archive/vehicle-information-kits.html click on the Chevrolet Trucks link, then find the year and download the pdf file.
I had a 50 3600 years ago and it had the same front fenders as the half tons.As a matter of fact the rear fenders are the same as well ,they just have longer running boards on the long beds. The cabs and doors are same all the way up to a 6400 series .The 6400 does have different fenders and hood though .Believe it or not the front parking lights on my 50 1/2 3100 came off of a 49 6400 series (i know because im the one that got them off of a 6400 series wrecker) .Even though the front end is different they share the same parkinglights in the grill ...
What is the difference between the wheel base and the bed length between the 3100 and 3600? That seems to be the major asthetic difference.
I see a 9.75" difference on the wheelbase according to one site....does that translate directly to bed length as well? Is this a huge visual difference? I guess i am speaking to people who are very familiar with both. Thanks!
