The Flathead Meltdown is the world's only heads-up racing class strictly for flathead powered cars. Essentially, it's a bunch of British fellas with a passion for traditional hot rods and going fast. Give... <BR><BR>To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
A public thank you to Darren for taking the time to put the website together and also for the time and effort he puts into making sure the event runs (reasonably) smoothly as well. The hard work doesn't go without notice, thanks mate!
Mart's website useta have lotsa pix of the Meltdown drags. Not sure if it still does but boy do I love some od those Limey rides, and how they USE them !! Killer stuff !! Rat
Oh, Casey, are you listening?!!? This is right up your alley! See 'ya at the Thaw..................... jb.
Thanks guys. The website is still in its infancy, so check back often for more features on the cars that take part. It'd certainly be cool to see an equivalent race class over there. We all have a heap of fun which doesn't take that much organisation, to be fair, and the beer and BS session at the end of racing is second to none.
Artiki.. I love your T touring... Surhsc said it was yours, I hadn't made the connection... lovely man... good inspiration! When my hotrod grows up, I want it to be just like yours... hahaha
Ryan...There are alot of Flathead Hotrods I've seen at the drags that would like to race one another, in a Flathead Class, at the HAMB Drags. I think it's a good idea.
How cool! I agree we need to do something like this in the states. Steve Glucoft Amocat Speed Emporium
I think it's RAD how dedicated those across-the-ponders are. It's not cheap to put together a rod here...immagine importing everything or trying to scrounge it!
Thanks for posting something british Ryan! The flathead flatdown is a great event and although i've never actually been to any events featuring the it, I just know its really great! I don't know if you know, but the car on the picture was built and is driven by Jim Turnball. Anyone know if he has a HAMB account, i'd love to see it! PS: by the way jim, if your reading this, congratulations on such a buetiful car, and such a fast one too!
Then you can get rid of the article on that scruffy ol' 24T. Nice one Darren, s'looking good. And it all looks so glamorous too! Wish I had pictures of the mud oozing up between my toes in the "flathead pits" from last year. Ah, the rain, the fog, the slime. And laying in the dirt to wipe that single drip from the rear main...
Congrats Darren, and thank you for the time you take to run the meltdown and how welcome you made me feel on my first outing..
Well now, there are many flathead only classes within the SCTA clasification system, and for drags, I believe the Denver Flatheads has been holding a flathead only drag meet at Julesburg, CO for over 20 years. With the ECTA running at Maxton, NC, flathead powered cars don't have to haul all the way to Wendover to strut their stuff.
I know...I know, its a "little" flathead...but do they have a class for the V860'S ?? They turn into little monsters with a little speed equipment..
Loved the pics. Loved the stories. Love the dedication. Good stuff fellas, keep it up - Inspirational!
Jim (and Julie) also do fantastic Kustom work over here in England; http://www.royalkustoms.co.uk/home.html http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=319228 Tim,Viva Teds & Rockers on the HAMB Paul
Makes me want to get my '35 Chrysler flathead 6 stuck in my '34 Dodge coupe so I can run it at the Hamb Drags.
that's what Don Dillard said at the Hot Rod Drags this year!!!! He hung out with the Flathead boys while the was over too
