The Plymouth was my Dad's 47, see his latest ride in my photos (41 Nash). Was the T the one that the guy had a couple of different bodies for, and swapped them out during the Winter?
Here's my P15. Nearly six years to get it to this point, but enjoyed the journey. Had a P15 much like this as my first car back in 1966.
I love these cars as customs. Mines gonna have more of a hot rod or race car vibe. Heres where mine is at now...Yeah it needs a new front end somethin fierce! I'm in the market for some missing trim! Oh and the flat 6 was gone long before I got the car!
UUUGGGHHH '48 Plymouth.... Why would anybody be dumb enough to want one of those!!!! Oh, wait, that's me!
I've got a 49', and I've gotta say I've never really had any problem finding parts for them. Those old flat sixes were used for a long time after in all kinds of stuff (combiners and generators I believe) so lots of stores still carry the essentials. I've bought everything from head gaskets to voltage regulators from Napa, often without having to have the parts shipped in or anything. Now when it comes to vintage hop up equipment, hard to find isn't the word. The word is expensive. I wanted to get some of those finned parts, so I went looking for em....I found em and I left em! I've also heard from more than one source that hopping them 218's up is a waste. Yeah, they'll make some power (not much) and it also decreases the engine's life exponentially. Not that hop-up parts are good for any engine really, but the design of those old flat sixes just can't withstand too much "improvement". Dress it up and cruise it is what I decided to go with. Hopefully I'll get around to it eventually...
Also added the long 41 Buick rear fenders and made a rumble seat out of the trunk Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I love these cars. In my eye, they look a lot better than the Fords of that era, if you lower them and shave them a little. I know where two are right now. They just aren't popular, for whatever reason.
they have ifs, parallel leafs, nicer grill, canted B pillar. over all a much better car, BUT the fords had a V8.
dammit, every time this or any of the other P15 posts comes back up, I'm reminded how much I dig 'em and really want another... then spend the following two weeks on craigslist looking for one I don't have time, space or money for
Put a later model flathead 6 in one from a 50s era Chrysler and you're in fat city. My Pops has big '54 six with an OD and highspeed rearend in his '40. He smokes flathead Fords on the regular!
We drove down to LARS in my brother's '48 last weekend. Flathead six, dual carbs, split exhaust, total luxury liner.
My Dad has a '48 Dodge coupe, and I've always thought that it would look good nosed, decked, lowered with skirts, a set of wide whites, and some Lancer caps. The problem with a '48 Dodge is that homely egg crate grille, so I'd remedy that with a '47 Olds unit. Maybe a set of spots and lake pipes, frenched headlights and taillights, and some ribbed bumpers... Heck, it wouldn't look half bad! Then it'd just need a new drivetrain and suspension...
