Finally I've got my 35 on the road. The body was chopped when I bought it but needed a lot of help. Looks pretty good now but I new problem has come up I need to cut down the garnish moldings and I'm not sure how to go about it. Since they're hard to come by I don't want to screw things up. The first photo is my 35 with a 3.5 inch chop the second is one of the moldings I need to modify. Can someone offer some help? How but I cut these things without making a bunch of scrap. Thanks!
Make a paper template of the door window opening and then lay the molding on the paper. That should at least give you a road map as to where to make the cuts. The actual fitting needs to be done on the car.
Your cuts in the molding will be at about the same locations as the cuts to the top. My guess is they probably cut the top of the window and added metal to make up the gap. You'll need to use some of the molding you cut out of the front verticle section to fill the gap you'll have in the same place. Don't worry, 35-6 moldings aren't hard to find. I have some extra rears that I'd sell for $25 each iif ya screw yours up.
nice looking `35 slantback , i had one i sold 15 years ago....i still miss it i think i might have some 4-door moldings if you need some pieces
Everyone thanks for the advice. There's a lot of hard work in that frame off build and I'd rather not mess it up in the last minutes.
