ha! i wish i knew what it was so i don't do it again. something must have grounded out somewhere. i double and triple checked the routing, and got that part right. so i dunno.

got the 'lower' part of the wiring redone. gen cut out to battery to terminal box. push starter button and it turns.

now to brave the ignition/spark side, which i think is what gave me problems this morning. i think i had a bad ammeter that shorted everything out. so, let's see what happens now...

I hate wiring....big time. I get it done but put it off as long as I can. Also, that's why I carry a big extiguisher with me. I don't trust my wiring ability at all!! Sorry to hear about that but at least it wasn't the entire car.

    Keep after it!!!

How are you hooking up the ammeter, because they don't go to ground?

Not sure on generators, but with alternantors, they go in line from the battery terminal on your starter, to the battery terminal on the alternantor.

    Keith, like this:

All I can figure is that there was a short in the ammeter. i redid it with a different ammeter, and no cablooey. So that's good.

Things are looking good GOW !! Love the steering wheel and Becky's ride. You don't see cars like that every day. Hope the wiring gremlins have decided to bother someone else.
I'm really lucky Scott did all mine for me (and the brake and fuel lines)...That stuff boggles my mind.

Yep, that's it, Mark...basically the same as an the feed with an alternater.
Test each item in short bursts with the power on (battery connected), and make sure each is OK, before moving on to the next.

You don't have that many wires, so you'll have it all set in no time!

    Good luck...and keep having fun!!!:D

i saved all the stuff you got me Bill. none of that burned. just the 2 wires i ran from terminal box to ammeter.

i hope this other gauge holds up.

can i permanently bypass the ammeter?

I should have picked you up a fuse.
    It mounts to the starter.

    Mark,
I don't have an ammeter on mine but I do have the fuse like Bill mentioned that mounts to the starter.

fuse between starter and the wire to the terminal box?

then how do you complete the circuit that the ammeter usually does?

Mark, Here's what I have. It's VERY basic!! I'm not running a key at the moment...just a switch and switch for the fuel pump and a battery cutout.
I plan on adding some more gauges at some point and maybe a keyed ignition but for now, she's just like my dirt track cars were.

hey Mark, the ignition system on the wiring diagram that Bugsy is showing you is very different from a stock Model A. It's one or the other. Most people will understand the one Bugsy posted because it is the closes to a modern style so it makes it the easy to understand for everybody if something goes wrong. I wanted to swing by this week but school and preping for racing at the Orange drag reunion has me tied up. The roadster is looking good!!! Jared

5000 posts - congrats, but remember, it's not the number of posts, it's the amount of rubbish per post that counts.
    Haha.
