This might save someone singed eyebrows. I got a 48 ford that was parked 46 years with a full tank of gas at the time. it now had about 1/4 tank of something like dried paint and kerosene. the tank was so bad I just decided to burn it to get rid of the smell around the house. I threw it on a fire and it still rolled out a flame and and whooshed then burned for about 2 hours. i didn't know it would last that long and still explode that old.

Shouldn't a experienced grenade inspector have some idea about the explosiveness of old gas. HA

Who knew throwing a gas tank onto a fire was a bad idea.

Were you drinking beer at the time you put the tank on the fire? HA HA

I know now it seems stupid but at the time sounded like a good idea. no beer then just gas fumes. I threw it in the woods the day before but I could smell it all over the place.

OK, I guess you're ready for your "Grenade Inspector's terminal Exam"...
Here's your grenade; disassemble it and lay out the components for your inspection.
Neatness counts...from left to right on your desk you should have grenade body, cotter pin, and spoon...

So throwing toxic shit in the woods didn't work huh. That seems like such a bulletproof plan, hard to believe it failed.

  8. so andy will you be striking a match to have a lil look see in the tank just to make sure theres none left????? please dont no matter what the voices in your head tell you..

My dad did warn me about it and I planned on letting it drain out. then taking the sludge to a local recycle center to get rid of the gas but it had such a smell I thought the neighbors would smell it . Burning did get rid of the smell. I already got a new tank. I just didn't know it would still have power that long. i thought it would just burn slow like motor oil.
I was just saying if anyone gets that stupid idea don't do it.

Didn't we have a thread about this? Something about dumb ways you've gotten hurt? Of course I would have thought that it would be a slow fire also.

Always hang out with someone drunker than yourself; that way, you get to watch the fun rather than be the fun...

  18. When you went to the head of the class graduating from a FNG to grenade inspector it looks like you left all your knowledge behind. I'll bet the results of dropping a Black Cat in a abandoned gas tank at a filling station would suprise you too>>>>.

This reminds me of the thread about how to get fumes out of a gas tank.

One guy said that he takes old rags, puts them on a really long stick, lights them on fire and......... you can guess the rest.

No matter what else bad happens to you for the next year, consider yourself lucky.

I met a guy in the burn unit that had huge scars over most of his body from throwing a gas tank on a fire when he was a teenager.

But still, this is one of the funniest threads I have read.

I used to install heating and air....and doing the repairs too! The old man I learned from would check for natural gas and propane leaks with a lighter...........
