I have an older steering column installed from the 70's and I am currently putting in an EZ wire set on my 26 T. I have everything in, but I am not sure about how to decipher the parallel wires coming out of the column. Here are the colors if anyone can help:

    Light Blue
    Yellow
    Dark Blue
    Pink
    Purple
    White

There is a turn signal handle on the column and the auto shifter was removed, filled in and now is auto on the floor.

    Thanks.

sounds like a gm column, just use chart to hook upto the new wiring, easy enough if you know it is the function the chart says it is on your new wiring , i can post a ford early also, but doesnt have many of these colors more than likely gm

Do you know what make the column is from? By the wire colours it sounds like a GM.
    White- Brake light switch
    Green- Right rear lamp
    Yellow- Left rear lamp
    Purple- Turn signal flasher
    Dark blue- Right front lamp
    Light blue-Left front lamp
    Black- horn

Looks like oldchevyseller beat me to it:D

Thanks, I had my wife download a manual from Painless and their diagram for a GM was very similar-- yours is more difinitive.
I see you are from Mankato. My wife was born there. Know any Schmidts or Rode's (Lake Crystal).

FLATMAN: Don't know what it came out of. But it looks more and more like GM
29MOONSHINE: Seems like you all almost agree.

What should I do with the Pink wire? Use it for Green/Right Rear?
Any suggestions about how to hook up the Flasher with the Turn Sig Flasher? Would the Turn signal flasher also be the turn signal indicator as noted on the wire?

go this painless link page 23 and see the wiring colors, some of your wires are not supported by the harness according to the page, what wire harness number kit did you buy?

is you igniton switch in the dash?

go to page 14 to see the other column wiring

pink is for a key alarm, if it is a 79 column, you wont use it, if you have an earlier column look at the same page ,70 to 74 column, can you post a picture of this wiring and cloumn?

OldChevySeller The PDF page numbers are different than the manual numbers. That is the manual that I downloaded and printed out. It looks like the column is an old GM and that the Painless wiring on the manual page 10 Section 7.4.5 is the one I will most likely use. I guess I will have to do a continuity test on the pink wire to see what happens.

    Does that sound okay?

That leaves only the purple wire? Any clues as to where it goes?

Sorry I see that I missed writing it down. This is getting to me!!

Thanks Trevor. Pardon my stupidity or inability to read and transfer what I see into writing.
Have you got a phone number where I can call you? I have a few other stupid questions that you might be able to help me with.
Just PM or email it if you think you might be able to help.
