  2. Wouldn't you love to get a hold of one of those? The truck has a graceful look to it stock, inage her with a little "work" done. Lower it some, sahve the handles, lower the headlights down 5-6 inches.......

Studebaker was always a pioneer in advanced thinking . Too bad the steel shortage and finances wiped them out in 1950......... scrubba

I've never seen one of those. That is the slickest looking, factory truck that I've ever seen!! I'd love to see some interior shots of it. BEAUTIFUL!!!! Thanks for posting this!!

  8. Wow! Except for the purple one (just not my particular taste) those are gorgeous! Any one ever seen one made into a mild custom?

Here are some more. The blue car in the picture was another option that Studebaker had in 1939 and 40. It had a pickup bed that fit inside the trunk. The man that owns this one has 2 of these cars with the beds.
The picture of the taillight in the fourth picture is called a wig wag. When you step on the brakes it lights up and swings back and forth. Dusty

I think it's the back of a 30's-40's International heavy truck but I'd have to ask him to be sure.

The concept was certainly not lost on GM & Ford....The El Camino and Ranchero sold like hot cakes for years.............The 1950 Studie pickup was one of the smoothest around.......Makes a great custom!

I've always loved the early Stude trucks: gorgeous!

If ever there was a truck screaming for a Westergard treatment, it's one of these!

"Perhaps it was the right truck at the wrong time"

Studebakers full history, wrapped up in one sentence. Great ideas, wrong time.

I like the concept; but lately I've been drawn more to the corollary concept: a svelte coupé or two-door sedan based on something that was only available as a truck. It's what makes a Rover P5 Coupé sexy: all this feline grace around the rear quarters combined with a front end that looks like an AEC Routemaster bus.

Studebaker didn't go under until 1966. They stopped building trucks in 1964 and only built cars with 283 Chevy engines in them from '65-'66.

Coupe Express has always been my #1 pickup and I found a really nice 1939 for good money but she'll kill me if I buy one more vehicle....:(

man that thing is cool... it would make an awesome custom...

  26. the hudson pick ups are keen also....
i have seen some 30's ford trucks converted to car front sheet metal..... they look quite natural with 34-39 front clips

all up/scale pickups seem to appeal to hot rodding tastes

I really dig the President headlamps along side the indicators on the '38. As Jay noted, very cool.
