Does anyone have any information on the best way to restore a model A trunk handle? I have an early 1929 T shaped trunk handle. It was pretty rusted to the latch and the square part of the handle that goes to the latch was pretty rusty also. the locking mechanism is also broke out of it, I woulld like to rebuild this handle to use on my trunk lid. thanks billy
How to restore it? I suppose first we need YOUR definition of 'restore'. As with any other part, free up the moving parts, disassemble and clean and repair all the parts. Reassemble. That is so obvious I wonder if I am missing something in your request
I have taken the latch assembly apart, but I was wondering how do I take the handle apart to rebuild it? the locking mechanism in the handle is busted and I wwould like to replace it and also replace the square shaft if possible, I just dnt know how to take the handle apart.
You must not have a real speed shop if you dont know how to take things apart First you give it to a 5 year old kid.... haha, look for spotwelds, drill'em out re assembly is rosette weld
The handle has no spot welds from what I can see, it looks like the T part of the handle is bent around and crimped to the bottom of the handle which incases the tube part of the handle, I will try to take pics and put them on here. the handle is brass and I dont wont to mess the handle up because the door handles match it and they work perfect. I do know how to take things apart but just dont want to mess it up, from what ive read and have been told the a T handle model A handle that I have is kinda hard to come by. thanks
chrisntx, snyders doesnt have the T handle that I have, and there trunk handels are $39 so not really sure which catalog your looking in.
http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/modelaparts/insidedoorhandles 7th item on this page is the only T handle that I know of for a Model A Ford
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...70658624444&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123 mine looks like this one, but these have been modified to be used for door handles and not trunk handles. if you read in the discription it states he used a 28 rumble handle to make the door handles.
