by the time this thread gets to 10 pages every car from the 50's will have been mentioned at least once.

  3. The top 10 of the '50s? That's a tough one! They're mostly all gorgeous cars! There never has been, nor ever will be such an exciting era of automotive design as the 50s!
My personal favs are mostly in the 1954-1959 bracket.
    1958 Buick riviera coupe
    1956 Cadillac
    1958 Oldsmobile
    1957 Oldsmobile
    1956 Oldsmobile
    1956 Ford
    1958 Pontiac
    1959 Ford
    1955 Packard coupe
    1959 Chevy
    195.....all the others!

    Yeah...I like chrome.

The Fifties is the one decade it will be impossible to pick only 10. There was just too much styling talent working overtime to fulfill the demand of cars post WWII.

    50 Olds coupe
    53 Studebaker hardtop
    53 Buick Skylark (not '54)
    55-56 Chrysler 300
    56 Chevy Nomad
    57 Plymouth Savoy hardtop

The only others I'd pick would be my own two phantom Victorias. They don't quite answer Jay's original question, but I did both of them as I thought Ford should have (rather than as "kustoms"):

Speaking of understated and clean, 50fraud's '56 has it too, just like the black '57 above ^^^^. I'm a Tri Fiver'er that has a secret Ford guy inside me somewhere that's too understated to come out.

    Ford=understatement. :cool:

And we ALL know that ANY shoebox has understated refinement in spades.

My old man imported a 1956 Lincoln Continental to Peru in the late '50s. It was stolen soon after. I have the ignition and door keys, a picture of him with the car and copies of the letter he wrote to the then Peruvian presidents wife for help with the importation; the import duties were brutal back then. What a beautiful automobile.

I think the mark II was the best looking car of the 50's by far, but there were lot's of others too. Among them, the mid to late 50's Buicks were some damned fine rides that are under appreciated these days.

Coolest/best cars of the fifties for me the ones that were unquestionably right were; 56-57 Lincoln, 57 Ford Skyliner, 57-58 Chrysler, Dodge, Desoto, Imperial, or Plymouth stole the show for me. Add the 58 Edsel, 59 Chevy and 59 Olds to that too.

It would be MORE difficult to make an ugly 50's car list IMHO.
They were all gorgeous! And the styling on the inside was just as impressive as the outside! All of todays plastic cars can pound sand.
The 57/58 Plymouth Furys (but all the 50's Ply's are sharp)
50's Pontiacs (esp the 55 Pontiacs!)
Pretty much all the 50's Olds are sharp
Even 50's Dodges are cool to me, the 57 Dodge truck is one of my fav's!
Of course you can't leave out the 50's Studies OR Binders! Where's the love for the Binders?!
I couldn't name a car from the 50's I didn't like (and yes I love the 55 Shoeys, guilty as charged)

I agree with you. it might have been different if there wasn't so many of them but 57 chevs are like noses seems everyone got one.

I like a 55 Nomad, white over red please.
I would take a 55 Vett too, all red
I bought a 60 chev in late 59 so is it a 50's car? Black Bel Air two door post please.
    56 Continental is fine
    I like 57 Fords too.
    A black 57 T-Bird would also find a place

Most all 50's cars have a great look-I'm a Tri-five guy (for 35 yrs-same cars) but like the 57 the least even though I have one-an FI car and a 55 BelAir. With that said--really like 57 Fords, 50 and 57 Olds,56 and 57 Buicks and 57-59 Chryslers. 57 Ford black 300 shown earlier is good as it gets for me.

Any car of the '50's has more distinctive style than these computer generated
jelly beans that are out now. I mean come on look at the Toyota's, Honda
etc. , refrigerators from the '50's had more style.

    1957 Corvette is my vote
